Roscommon minors play Leitrim on Saturday On this Saturday (March 15th) in Bornacoola, Roscommon minor footballers play Leitrim in round two of the Connacht minor football league at 5 pm. 1st year football secondary school blitz day On Thursday, April 10th Roscommon coaching and games development are holding a 1st year football blitz day for all secondary schools in Co. Roscommon at St. Faithleachs’ GAA grounds in Ballyleague. Full time coach Peter Carney will be informing all schools with the details this week. 2nd year football secondary blitz day On Thursday, April 17th Roscommon coaching and games development are holding a 2nd year football blitz day for all the secondary schools in the county at the St. Faithleachs GAA grounds in Ballyleague. Pearses host local primary schools blitz day Last Thursday Padraig Pearses GAA club held a superbly organised 7-a-side football blitz day for all the primary schools within their club area. Over 100 boys and girls took part and really enjoyed themselves as every player got at least 4 games with every school ending up in a final. There was a great turnout of club officials as the ladies had tea and hot scones for all teachers and refreshments for the kids in what proved to be a marvellous success. Go Games football and hurling blitzs in May The month of May nationally in the GAA will be known as stay and play with the GAA in May and here in Roscommon we will be holding U8-U10 blitzs in both football and hurling. The Roscommon coaching and games development have 13 centres in football and 3 in hurling orgainsed for the blitzs. Big uptake for level one football course in Roscommon This year’s level one football course which commenced last week in Roscommon GAA county board offices, has 4 sessions conducted in theory (ideal player, ideal team, team preparation, role of the coach) Diet-nutrition and lifestyle, strength condition and core and physical fitness. We conclude our level one course this Friday night and Saturday morning with speed endurance with the ball, sports psychology and team preparation. 26 coaches are currently doing the course, with a large number of young coaches in attendance – both male and female -which is exciting for the clubs in the county. Football foundation course part two for North-East coaches To all the coaches that have undertaken the football foundation course this is a reminder that part two of the above course, an outdoor practical session, will take place as follows for the following two regions: All coaches in North-East Roscommon – a practical session will take place at Abbey Park, Boyle on next Saturday morning, March 15th at 10.30 am. The course will be conducted by tutors from the Roscommon Sports Partnership Board.
