U8-U10 football coaches meeting in Abbey Hotel The Roscommon coaching and games development are holding a very important meeting and workshop for all clubs – U8, U10 football coaches and assistant coaches from every club in the county on Wednesday night, March 12th at 8.30 pm in the Abbey Hotel, Roscommon. On the night details of all our blitzs for the year will be given while presentation of the Fun Do pack along with a new Connacht Coaching booklet will take place. It is very important all clubs are represented along with their coaching officer. Go Games football and hurling blitzes in May The month of May nationally in the GAA will be known as stay and play with the GAA in May and here in Roscommon we will be holding U8-U10 blitzs in both football and hurling. The Roscommon coaching and games development have 13 centres in football and 3 in hurling orgainsed for the blitzes. Clubs will be told all the relevant details at the U8-U10 meeting in the Abbey hotel on March 12th. Primary school football and hurling coaching in April We will be back in all primary schools on Monday, April 7th for the first of our two ten-week coaching cycles in 2008. Padraig Pearses primary school football blitz day On this Thursday, March 6th Padraig Pearses GAA club are holding a football blitz day for all the national schools in their club area. It would be great if every club within the county held two blitzs a year for their national schools. Football foundation course part two To all the coaches that have undertaken the football foundation course this is a reminder that part two of the above course an outdoor practical session will take place (as follows) for the following three regions: All coaches in the North-East – the session will take place in Abbey Park, Boyle on Monday evening, March 3rd at 7 pm sharp. The mid Roscommon practical session will take place at Dr. Hyde Park, Roscommon on Monday evening, March 10th and finally for all the coaches that took part in the Johnstown course their second night is Monday, March 31st, with all sessions commencing at 7 pm. Roscommon sports partnership board meeting Just a reminder to all delegates that a Roscommon sports partnership board meeting will take place in their offices on Lanesboro Street on this Thursday evening, March 6th at 6 pm. Mixed luck for Roscommon colleges in Connacht championship Their was mixed luck for Roscommon colleges in the Connacht senior football championships last week with pride of place going to St. Aloysius College who defeated Gorton Abbey after a great tussle by 0-12 to 0-11 to qualify for the Connacht C football final against Ballisodare of Sligo. Garbally College were defeated by Headford in the B semi-final. Roscommon referee for senior A football final Declan Hunt of St. Josephs will referee this year’s Connacht senior A football final between St Jarlaths and St. Colmans in Ballinrobe on next Sunday, March 9th at 3 pm. The curtain-raiser is the B final between Headford and Rice College. Roscommon schools in Connacht hurling blitz days On next Monday, March 10th in Tooreen GAA grounds Roscommon CBS and Castlerea Community School will take part in a Connacht hurling 2nd year blitz commencing at 11am. Code of best practise course for clubs If any football or hurling club would like a code of best practise course for all their underage coaches who are coaching kids they are asked to contact GAA Games Manager Willie Hegarty. The course will be conducted by tutors from the Roscommon Sports Partnership Board.
