Connacht GAA coaching conference This year’s Connacht GAA coaching conference is on February 23 rd in the McWilliam Park Hotel, Claremorris. All clubs have now got conference brochures and bookings forms.    Guest coaches and speakers include All-Ireland winning Kerry manager Pat O’Shea, Galway hurling manager Ger Loughnane, Sunday Game pundit Colm O’Rourke and national hurling director Paudie Butler.    The coaching conference is opened to all coaches, both male and female, with early booking essential. Further information can be obtained from Willie Hegarty or the Connacht Council GAA office on 094-96-30335. GAA Cul camps Roscommon GAA VHI Cul camp programme 2008: we will have details in the coaching corner next week of this year’s Roscommon GAA VHI Cul camps and a full list of dates and venues for all our young boys and girls.  County U-16 football trials on this Saturday On this Saturday February 16 th trials for the County Roscommon U-16 football team will take place in Kilbride GAA pitch at 12 pm sharp. Players and clubs have all being notified about the arrangements.  Code of best practise course for clubs If any club football or hurling club would like a code of best practise course for all their underage coaches who are coaching kids are asked to contact GAA games manager Willie Hegarty. The course will be conducted by tutors from the Roscommon sports partnership board. We sincerely thank Noel Feely for his assistance on this very important matter and we urge clubs to avail of the service. Hurling clubs urged to order helmets  Games manager Willie Hegarty is urging all hurling clubs to contact him immediately if they wish to order helmets at a reduced price for the year ahead, extra small, small and medium helmets cost €50 each. We can now get large ones, also priced at €50.  Football Foundation courses in Dr Hyde Park On this Saturday, February 16 th a football foundation course takes place in Dr. Hyde Park, Roscommon for all the clubs in Mid and West Roscommon. It commences at 2 pm sharp. Hurling foundation course in Knockcroghery Our hurling foundation course will take place in Knockcroghery on Friday, February 15 th at 7 pm and on Saturday 16 th at 11 am. The cost per coach attending the foundation courses is €15 per person. Club administration night for Mid Roscommon clubs The second night of the Roscommon coaching and games development underage coaching programme with all clubs both football and hurling within the county continues on this Wednesday night, February 13 th in the County GAA Board office at 8.30 pm sharp. This session is with Roscommon Gaels. Oran, St. Faithleachs, St. Ciarans and Kilbride. The Chairperson, Secretary and coaching officer of each club must be present at the meeting. We had a great turnout from West Roscommon last week with five of the six clubs in attendance and a very productive meeting took place. U-15 football development squad coaching Coaching for this year’s Roscommon U-15 football squad will recommence on Saturday, April 5 th for all players on the present panel. If clubs feel they have other players then they are asked to contact either Games manager Willie Hegarty or coaching officer Seamus Sweeney. FUN DO packs for sale Just to let clubs and coaches know that we now have only a limited stock of the FUN DO packs left for sale.  Please contact Willie Hegarty immediately if you want to avail of the €50 offer at present for the new football and hurling learning resource pack. U-14/U-15 hurling development squad coaching session This year’s Roscommon’s U-14/U-15 hurling development squad coaching sessions will begin on Saturday, March 1 st in Athleague at 10.30 pm. Clubs will be contacted nearer the date to send players to both squads. U-14 football development squad coaching It was agreed at the Roscommon coaching and games development underage meeting last week that this year’s U-14 development regional squad coaching session will commence on Tuesday, April 1 st at four venues. Indoor circuit training for club coaches on next Monday night This year Roscommon coaching and games development are holding four regional indoor circuit football nights for all underage club coaches, both male and female. Each club coaching officer has got the itinerary for all their club coaches (with information and times). The third session, which will be conducted by our full-time coach Peter Carney, will take place in St. Barry’s GAA club centre on next Monday night, February 18 th at 7.30 pm sharp – for all coaches in the North-east region. The host club St Barry’s will have some underage players in attendance. We sincerely hope there will be a big turnout of coaches from the North-East Roscommon clubs. Level one football course Roscommon This year’s level one football course will commence on Wednesday night, March 5th and will include: theory night, Diet-nutrition and lifestyle, strength condition and core, physical fitness, speed endurance and sports psychology and team preparation. It is hoped at least one coach from each club will avail of this course. Clubs will be receiving more details closer to the starting date. Also we encourage all clubs to include coaching material and information in your weekly club notes in all the local papers.  Appointment of new club coaching officers If clubs are appointing new coaching officers in either football or hurling at their AGM we would urge them to contact Games Manager Willie Hegarty with the new person’s name and contact number ASAP. This is a very important underage position within the club to develop their coaching structures and we urge all clubs to ensure a coaching officer is appointed.
