Roscommon CBS capture senior schools football title  Roscommon CBS captured the Roscommon senior schools football championship title which is sponsored by Comfy Café (Roscommon Town) as they defeated St. Aloysius College by one point, 0-8 to 1-4.    Despite the terrible weather conditions both teams served up a hugely entertaining battle that went right down to the wire. We thank our sponsors Comfy Café for their support in running this year’s competition.  U-15 football development squad coaching Coaching for this year’s Roscommon U-15 football development squad will continue on this Saturday morning, February 2 nd in Kilbride GAA pitch at 9.30 am. Players are asked to note the earlier starting time. A full turnout is expected. Indoor circuit training for club coaches on this Thursday night This year Roscommon coaching and games development will be holding four regional indoor circuit football nights for all underage club coaches, both male and female. Each club coaching officer will be getting the itinerary for all their club coaches (with information and times).   The four regional venues are Ballinlough, Kilbride, Tarmonbarry and Ballyforan with seven clubs attending each session. Sessions will be conducted by our full time coach Peter Carney. First night is this Thursday, 31 st January at 7.30 pm in Michael Glaveys community complex for West Roscommon. The host club Michael Glaveys will have some under age players in attendance. We sincerely hope that a big turnout of coaches will attend from the West Roscommon clubs. Big number attends hurling coaching workshop A large number of club coaches from both hurling and camogie attended the recent underage hurling coaching workshop which was held in Four Roads community centre. Thanks to all clubs who had their U-10 players there on the night for Paudie Butler and Damien Coleman. Big thanks to Prionsias Killion, Ann Connaughton and Roger Hynes who organised the night. Football Foundation courses commencing in Boyle Just to let clubs and coaches know we will be holding our annual football and hurling foundation courses on a regional basic this year, venues include St Dominic’s (H), Abbey Park Boyle (F), Dr. Hyde Park (F) and Johnstown (F). On this Saturday, February 2 nd in Abbey Community College, Boyle we will be holding a foundation football course for all clubs in the North East of the county commencing at 3 pm sharp.    On Saturday 9 th of February we will be holding a football foundation course in Johnstown (Clann Na nGael) for all the clubs in South Roscommon commencing at 2 pm. On Saturday, February 16 th football foundation course in Dr. Hyde Park, Roscommon for all the clubs in Mid Roscommon commencing at 2 pm sharp.    Our hurling foundation course will take place in Knockcroghery on Friday, February 15 th at 7 pm and on Saturday 16 th at 11 am. The cost per coach attending the foundation courses is €15 per person. Club administration and coaching meeting for all underage clubs Following on from our first-ever Roscommon coaching and games development conference last December we are now ready to continue with phase two of the programme when over the month of February GAA Games manager Willie Hegarty and coaching officer Seamus Sweeney will be meeting all clubs – both football and hurling – with a follow-up forum.    A separate night for each region shall see the clubs minor board chairperson, secretary and coaching officer attend. Information of times and dates for each club has being sent to every club.  Minor leagues starting on Sunday February 3 rd   The local minor football leagues will be starting on Sunday, February 3 rd for all three divisions. Level one football course Roscommon This year’s level one football course will commence on Wednesday night, March 5th and will include, theory night, Diet-nutrition and lifestyle, strength condition and core, physical fitness, speed endurance and sports psychology and team preparation. It is hoped at least one coach from each club will avail of this course. Clubs will be receiving more details closer to the starting date. Connacht GAA coaching conference This year’s Connacht GAA coaching conference is on February 23 rd in the McWilliam Park Hotel Claremorris. Brochures and bookings forms will be out next week.  Coaching corner available to clubs Each week our coaching corner will be in all the local papers and if clubs wish to highlight any club activities or anything to do with their club in the column they can do so by contacting GAA Games Manager Willie Hegarty on 086-8356227 or by email on   We would be delighted to from you. Also we encourage all clubs to include coaching material and information in your weekly club notes in all the local papers.  Appointment of new club coaching officers If clubs are appointing new coaching officers in either football or hurling at their AGM we would urge them to contact Games Manage Willie Hegarty with the new persons name and contact number ASAP. This is a very important underage position within the club to develop their coaching structures and we urge all clubs to ensure a coaching officer is appointed. FUN DO resource demonstration nights for clubs Clubs or schools who have purchased the new FUN DO coaching DVD Rom for both football and hurling and who would like a demonstration can contact Games manager Willie Hegarty for more information as our full time GAA coach Peter Carney will deliver the presentation to club coaches. Fun do learning resource pack for sale  Primary schools and clubs along with any coach can now purchase this FUN DO learning resource pack, which covers gaelic football, hurling, ladies football and camogie. The Roscommon coaching and games development committee would like every club to buy at least one as they aim to improve their underage structure within the club from U-6 to U-12.
