ST. Good luck to our U-10s on Sunday. ELPHIN The minor team had a good win in the first round of the minor championship at the expense of Roscommon Gaels in the Orchard Park. The game was hanging in the balance until the final stages when Elphin pulled away thanks to a goal from wing-back Shane McDermott. They play Padraig Pearses in the next round at the weekend (see fixtures for details).   STROKESTOWN Strokestown senior team bowed out of the championship after a tough and hard fought game with great rivals St. Brigid’s. With normal time almost up and Strokestown leading by a point the referee awarded a controversial penalty that decided the game. Man of the match was John Rogers who gave a wonderful display scoring 1-8 in total.  ST. JOSPEHS  St. Joseph’s had a quiet weekend on the playing field, with no championship or league game.  St. Josephs wish to thank John Gilleran of Gilleran Plumbing & Heating who kindly donated new footballs to the club recently.      ST. BARRYS  St. Barry’s 6-10. Roscommon Gaels 1-4. Our U-16 girls fantastic run of wins continues, and the latest victims of this great run were Roscommon Gaels. Well done ladies.  Barry’s had a comprehensive win over Kilmore in the Junior Championship recently. Our lads are now into the final against Kilglass, and this game will take place in late September. Details later. Mass for deceased members of the club will take place in the Clubhouse on Friday 14th September at 8pm. A social night will also take place on the night. We extend sympathy to the family and friends of Johnny McEvoy, Killinordan, Scramogue who died very suddenly last Thursday. Johnny will be very sorely missed in Scramogue. BOYLE The Minor team had a good win in the Championship against Clann na nGael. Final Score 1-15 to 0.15. Next match Friday Vs St Ciarans in Fuerty at 7.15 pm.  The U-12’s had a good win in the Championship last Sunday against Castlerea. Next match is on Friday Vs Roscommon Gaels in Roscommon. See fixtures for time and venue. We also play on Sunday against Oran at 12 noon.   The Intermediate team plays Fuerty on Sunday (9th). This is a vital match, support appreciated. The U-14’s had a great win in the Garda Cup final last Wednesday against Shannon Gaels, winning on a scoreline of 6-12 to 1-7. This was an excellent overall team performance from start to finish. There will be a Special Meeting for all Club Members in September to discuss future plans. Please watch these notes for more details. ST MICHAELS  It was a disappointing week on the playing fields for the club with championship losses at intermediate, minor and U-12s. Once again the intermediates made their exit at the quarter final stage going down by 2 points to Michael Glaveys at Elphin. On Tuesday evening the minors lost to Ballinameen in the championship. The U-12’s were defeated by St Ciarans. The Club would like to thank Michael Keane Solicitors for sponsoring polo shirts for the U-12s. CASTLEREA ST KEVINS On Friday evening our ladies team played Eire Og, the regular hurling training on Saturday morning, girls U-12 game on Saturday at 4 pm; Roscommon Herald Intermediate Championship game, St Croans Vs Tulsk at 6 pm Saturday evening followed by a ladies game between St Croans and Tulsk at 8 pm and on Sunday evening the Ruby Oil Senior championship game between Elphin and St Faithleachs; the pitch is in excellent condition thanks to pitch manager Seamus Coyne and great credit is due to all who stewarded and helped in any way with all those activities. Thanks to our ladies social committee and Marie McDermott for their excellent catering on both evenings; thanks also to the management of Castlerea Mart who allowed us to use their parking facilities for all our games. Our Gilmartin’s Cash & Carry sponsored senior team secured their place in next years senior championship by virtue of a hard earned four point victory over near neighbours Western Gaels in Elphin on Saturday evening last; final score Castlerea St Kevin’s 1 – 12 Western Gaels 1 – 8;  Our Clasby Beale Associates sponsored intermediate team take on near neighbours Eire Og in the quarter final of the Roscommon Herald Intermediate championship in Ballinlough on Saturday evening at 6.00pm; best of luck to everyone involved and we hope there is a good turn out of supporters to cheer them on. We extend sincere sympathy to Oliver Connaughton and the Connaughton family, Trien on the death of Oliver’s father Martin. ST BRIGID’S Senior Football Championship: St Brigid’s 3-8 Strokestown 1-12 Our Permanent Hodson Bay Hotel Senior football team qualified for the Co semi final with a hard fought win over a great Strokestown team on Sunday evening in Knockcroghery. (See report). Our senior Ladies football team had a comprehensive win over a young Roscommon Gaels side on Sunday last. Final score St Brigid’s 8-15 Roscommon Gaels 1-5. Minor Football Championship St Brigid’s 1-14 Kilbride 1-4: Our Minor team qualified for the quarter finals of the championship with a fine win over Kilbride on Wednesday evening last.  U-16 Football Championship St Brigids 3-8 Tulsk 1-6: St Brigid’s U-16 team ran out worthy winners against a gallant Tulsk side on Sunday last in Hyde Park.  The Annual BBQ fundraiser run by the Senior Men Players takes place on September 15 th in the Clubhouse. Tickets are €20 available from any senior player or committee member. There will be a Benefit night in the Club on next Friday night for Fr Aidan Fallon preceded by Mass in Curraghboy @ 9 pm. Fixtures- Our Hodson Bay Hotel sponsored Senior football team play Roscommon Gaels in the Co Semi Final in the Hyde Park on Sunday next. Time TBA – See fixtures elsewhere.  Minors play Eire Og in quarter final of the Minor Championship on Friday next in Loughglynn @ 7 pm. Late Tom Gallagher – The recent sad and untimely death of Tom Gallagher of Curramore saw the passing of a life long supporter of St Brigids and Roscommon football. He was also on various club committees in the sixties and seventies and held the post of Club Chairman from 1969 – 1972. A Club Trustee up to the time of his death, he was particularly proud to have witnessed his beloved St Brigids capture their first ever Connacht Senior Club title last year. Club members past and present formed a guard of honour at his removal and again at his funeral on the following day. In the course of a recent Club Executive meeting previously postponed as a mark of respect, a vote of sympathy was extended to his wife Eileen and family on their great loss. RIP. CLANN NA NGAEL Clann na nGael 1-11 Kilbride 1-5: The Clann na nGael senior team played Kilbride in the semi stage of the relegation play offs.  U-12 Ladies Championship: Clann na nGael 3-8 St. Brigids 2-4. A very impressive start to this years U-12 Ladies Championship, outstanding performances all over the pitch helped Clann to a well deserved seven point win. Thanks to the traveling supports. U-12 Ladies Championship: Clann na nGael 3-6 St. Croans 2-5. The Clann U-12 girls continued their excellent run of form in the U-12 Championship with a win over St. Croans in Ballintubber on Wednesday night. Many thanks to all who supported the team. Fixtures: Saturday Junior B Championship Clann na nGael Vs   Fuerty in Kilteevan at 6:30 pm ST. CROANS The intermediate team secured their place in the semi-finals of the intermediate championship on Saturday last. A fantastic team performance gave Croans victory on a score of 1-10 to 0-11.  The minors were in Championship action on Wednesday last. Despite a good performance St Domnics defeated St Croans 2-12 to 3-7.  After a tough game in Kilbride on Sunday, the U-12s had a two-point victory over home side, Kilbride.  On Sunday next, 9 th September, the U-10 team will play St. Brendans in the C final in Oran at 3 0’clock. All support would be greatly appreciated. Finally the club would like to express its sympathies to the family of John Keavney, Ballymoe, who died recently.  ST. FAITHLEACHS  Senior Championship: Congrats on our victory over Elphin on Sunday last in the quarter final. Final Score St Faithleachs 2-12 Elphin 1-10. See fixtures for details of Semi-Final. Ladies Junior B Championship: We played against Boyle on Sunday last and lost by 3 points.  Next Friday we play against Strokestown, see fixtures for details. Sympathy: The club extends deepest sympathy to Tom Morris & family on the death of his mother Mary Margaret Morris, Knockcroghery. Congratulations: To Raymond Cox and Oonagh Monaghan who got married last week.  Training continues as usual in St. Faithleachs pitch. TULSK Tulsk bowed out of the Intermediate Championship at the weekend losing by 2 points to St Croans in the quarter-final. The Intermediate team are still in with a chance of playing senior football, the O’Gara cup final 4 places are still up for grabs with Tulsk in with a real chance if they beat Clann na nGael in their upcoming game (see fixtures for details).  A Finance Meeting will take place in the clubrooms on Thursday evening at 9 pm. All finance committee members are asked to attend. The U-16’s were beaten by St Brigids on Sunday in the Div 1 semi-final. Paul Kelly Plant Hire sponsored food and drinks afterwards in the Tulsk Inn for the team. ST DOMNICS Intermediate Championship: We have a ‘do or die’ Match against St Ronans in the quarter final in Elphin on Saturday at 3 pm. Support requested. The Club would like to thank Tremane G.A.A. Club for the use of their Grounds for our recent Challenge Games.   Our U-14 Footballers had a great victory over Roscommon Gaels in the League semi-final. Dominics dominated the final ten minutes and scored five unanswered points to win on a scoreline of 2-11 to 0-11. We now play Michael Glaveys in the Final on Wednesday 12 th Sept in Hyde Park. Our U-16 team are through to the semi-final; they will play St Michaels, date and venue to be fixed. Training continues on Wednesday and Friday at 7pm.  Well done to our U-12 girls who won the ‘A’ County Final defeating Athleague on a scoreline of 4-0 to 0-1. Our Junior Camogie team lost narrowly to Oran on Sunday last despite playing some great camogie. Our next game is on Saturday evening at 5pm in Knockcroghery. U-12 football: We play Tulsk on Friday evening in Knockcroghery at 7pm. and on Sunday we are away to St Aidans.  U-10 Football: Our U-10 team play the Oran Tournament final in Oran on Sunday evening at 5pm. The team has done very well to reach the ‘A’ final, so why not come along and cheer on the team. Training continues for our beginners, U-8, U-10 and U-12 on Sunday morning from 12 – 1 O’clock. MINOR STROKESTOWN   Our U-12 team recorded two good wins on Thursday and Friday last against Padraig Pearses and Clann na nGael. Great performances by all the team and substitutes earned these merited wins.  Our U-16 team defeated Western Gaels in the championship on Friday evening on a score of 2-6 to 1-6.  Congratulations to Patrick Brogan, David Butler & Colin Compton, part of the Roscommon team who won the Fr. Manning Cup recently.  HURLING FOUR ROADS  Our Golf Classic at Roscommon GC proved to be an outstanding success with some very high scores posted. The Lohan brothers Stephen, Damien, Padraig and John triumphed with a score of 99 pts. David Dolans team came in 2nd on a score of 96 pts with Ollie Hannons team 3rd on 92 pts. Tom Reddington won the longest drive and Ollie Hannon won closest to the pin. We are very grateful to Roscommon GC for hosting us and to all the volunteers who helped organise the classic. A very special word of thanks to our main Sponsor Simon Coyle, to our associate sponsors Mark Kelly Construction, Tom Connolly Builders, Nissan Athlone, Padraig Crean and all our other sponsors. Our U-10 nursery school of hurling with Padraig Kelly of Galway is coming to a halt on Saturday, so all children involved are asked to attend the last training session in Ballyforan at 10 O’clock. There will be a presentation of a medal to each child involved. Our U-15 hurlers play in the county semi final against Castlerea in Athleague on Sunday evening followed by the other semi with Roscommon Gaels Vs Athleague/Tremane. Best of luck. We have been invited into an U-10 hurling tournament in Dicksboro GAA club on Saturday September 22 nd in Kilkenny. Details are being given to all players involved. ROSCOMMON GAELS Minor Hurling: training with senior panel, all players to attend. Championship game is fixed for next Friday vs Pearses U-15 Hurling: Semi final Vs Athleague/Tremane fixed for Sunday 9th.  U-12 Hurling: U12 championship continued with a great win over Athleague. Training continues Friday at 7pm in Hyde.  U-10 & U-8 Hurling: Blitz in Castlerea coming up at end of September. TREMANE Tom Lane RIP: Tremane Hurling club lost one of its founding members with the recent passing of Tom Lane. Tom represented the club in both Hurling and Football. We all have fond memories of Tom arriving at the training field with his many coats and watching on as the lads trained. Tom was a great servant to the club down the years and will be sadly missed by those who knew him. RIP. Best Wishes: The club would like to wish Frank Carr a speedy recovery after suffering a facial injury. CAMOGIE ORAN It was a good week for the club as both our Minor and Junior team reached their respective county finals. The minors will play St. Dominics on 15th September in Rockfield. The juniors will contest the final on 22nd September opponents and venue to be decided yet. Support for the girls on both final days would be greatly appreciated.  Well done to Kirsty Mee who competed in Mosney at the weekend.
