Oran  The Oran Junior B team (sponsored by Donamon Tarmacadam) were defeated by Creggs in a high-scoring game last Friday night, 3-12 to Oran 4-8.   The best of luck to Shane Regan and Eamonn Kenny who are representing the club on the county minor team.    We wish a speedy recovery to our President, Bernie Browne. The club would like to offer its sympathy to Vice President Brother Brendan on the death of his brother Martin Fahey. St Brigid’s  U-14 girls Feile Final St. Brigids 1-00 Clann na nGael 1-06. U-14 girls gave a spirited and battling display when losing out to a very strong Clann team on Wednesday evening in Kiltoom. Best of Luck to the girls as they go on to represent Roscommon. Senior ladies: St. Brigids 2-14 Michael Glaveys 1-09. Our seniors continued their winning start to the league after a tough encounter in Ballinlough on Saturday.  Elphin  Elphin Juniors played Strokestown last Saturday. The game was played in blustery conditions, both teams never really got going and it ended 0-6 points apiece. Our Seniors and Juniors are playing this weekend – please check fixtures for details. U-14 league campaign begins at home to Kilmore on Thursday 24th – all players asked to be at the dressing rooms at 6.15. St Croans On Friday evening last the U-16 team travelled to Ballyfarnon to play the home side, st. Ronans in the first round of the division 3 championship. St. Croans produced a good team performance and were comprehensive winners. The intermediate team hosted St. Michaels in Enfield on Saturday last. A 5 point win for St. Croans was recorded. The junior team were defeated by Padraig Pearses in Woodmount in the Tansey Cup on Sunday.  U 14 Ladies GAA – St Croan’s U 14 Ladies squad travelled to Ballyleague on Wednesday, 16th of April for their second match of the championship. The score was 2-6 to 1-9. We are playing Kilmore in Enfield on Sunday 27th April at 2 pm. U 12 training will continue on Fridays at 5.45 pm in Enfield.  St Faithleachs O’Rourke Cup: We play against Strokestown next weekend, see fixtures for details.  Tansey Cup: We played against Castlerea on Sunday last in Ballyleague. Final score St. Faithleachs 1-8 Castlerea 2-5.  We play against Padraig Pearses next weekend, see fixtures for details. Junior Ladies: We played against St. Barrys on Sunday last in Tarmonbarry. U12 Training: Thursday evening at 6.30 pm.  U8 & U10 Training: From May 1st, Training will be on Thursday evenings at 7.30 pm. St Ciarans  St Ciaran’s under 8’s and under 10’s football training begins this Friday 28th April at 7pm in Mulhern Park. Enrolment takes place from 6.30 pm. All children aged 6 at enrolment date and under 10 on January 1st 2008 are welcome. Enrolment forms will be distributed to the local schools before Friday. Castlerea St Kevin’s This week we extend good wishes for a speedy recovery to club chairman Johnny Flynn who is recovering from open heart surgery in the Matter Hospital; Johnny’s wit and humour, not to mention his enormous workrate,  will be missed while he is away but hopefully before too long the little escort van will breeze in the gate and the old order will be restored; just as well Johnnie was away before our Tansey Cup game last Sunday morning because the shortage of manpower could have had a bad effect—- even on a good heart. Tansey Cup: Our Clasby Beale Associates sponsored intermediate team played out a very credible draw against St. Faithleachs on Sunday morning last on a scoreline of Castlerea St. Kevins 2-5, St. Faithleachs 1-8. Their next game is scheduled for the coming weekend but may be deferred for one week.  Our Gilmartin’s Cash & Carry sponsored senior team are scheduled to play Kilbride in the O’Rourke Cup on this Sunday in Kilbride at 12.30 pm.  Who Wants to be a Thousandaire: Tickets are now on sale for this fund-raising show which takes place in the Stagger Inn on Saturday night 3rd May.  Michael Glaveys It’s an action-packed week for the club. On Thursday 24th the U-14 boys team begin their championship season against Roscommon Gaels (see fixture list).  The U-16 boys team play Padraig Pearses in the championship semi-final, also this weekend. Please support the team as this is the first time in many years that the club have reached this stage of the Division 1 U-16 championship. Ladies Football: There are U-14 ladies games this week against Boyle and Kilglass Gaels. The club would like to congratulate Eugene Stritch who was appointed the captain of the county minor football team for 2008. St Josephs  Tansey Cup: St. Josephs had to work hard to overcome a determined St. Dominic’s in Knockcroghery on Friday evening last. Leading 2-4 to 0-5 Josephs’s seemed to have opened a gap, and when they added a further 1-1 early in the second half, the game looked all over. Dominic’s hit back however, to score 1-4 in the final quarter and reduce the margin to just a 2 point win for the Kilteevan lads. The next fixture is against St. Dominic’s on Saturday the 26th in Knockcroghery at 5.00pm. The Juniors played St. Barry’s on Sunday morning the 20th in Tarmonbarry with a great win, 0-11 to 0-09 points. See fixture list for the next game. The U-16’s beat Kilglass, coming from behind with a one-point win, 2-7 to 2-6. Training takes place on Saturday morning 26th, for U- 8’s, 10’s and 12’s from 11am to 12pm.  The Lotto has been rescheduled to this Saturday the 26th in Paddy’s Bar, Watersplash, Cootehall.    There is a Club meeting taking place on Thursday night at 9.30 pm.    The club wishes a speedy recovery to Paul Newton, former Shannon Gaels and Roscommon footballer. Kilmore  The King and Moffat sponsored junior team defeated Leitrim Gaels in a challenge on Sunday last. The Kalzen sponsored senior team are due to play Padraig Pearses this weekend, please check fixtures for date and venue.  Strokestown  The junior team played out a draw with neighbours Elphin last Saturday afternoon in Strokestown. The final score was 7 points apiece.  The senior team are due to play St. Faithleach’s in Ballyleague this coming weekend in the O’Rourke Cup. See fixtures for more details. The club held a very successful Golf Classic in Strokestown Golf Club last weekend. The winning team was S. O’Connor, J O’Connor, D. Creighton & W. McAuliffe with a score of 97 points. Second place with a score of 93 points went to M. Crinigan, D O’Connell, M. Cox & T. Grealish. St. Michaels won the best GAA club score, Martin Crinigan won the longest drive & Ollie Dooley from Padraig Pearses won nearest the pin.  St Barrys  The Junior Bs were in hard luck when they lost out by just two points to St. Michaels recently. Final score St. Michaels 0-11 St. Barrys. This was a good display by our lads and they were in hard luck too lose out again. Training for under 10s and under 12s  this Friday at 6.30 pm at St. Barrys pitch. O’Rourke Cup: We play Roscommon Gaels in O’Rourke Cup next weekend in the Hyde. See fixture list in local papers for time. St Aidans  The seniors had a useful challenge match last Friday against Ferbane of Offaly which ended in a draw. The senior’s will be in action against St. Brigids in a very important O’Rourke Cup match this weekend (check fixtures for time and venue). Their next match is Thursday evening the 24th against Eire Og in Ballyforan at 7pm. All support appreciated. Eire Og It was a good weekend on the field for our various teams in action, with wins for the junior men’s side and the under-16 boys. The juniors recorded a 1-10 to 0-08 win away to Tulsk in the Division Four League. Meanwhile the under-16’s got the better of Shannon Gaels 3-7 to 1-9 in Division Two of the league. The Intermediate men’s team are due back in action this coming weekend, away to St. Ronan’s. Check fixtures for details. Congratulations to Shane Jordan on making the county under-16 panel.  Creggs  Division IV football league: Creggs 3-12 Oran 4-8 – Creggs and Oran served up a very entertaining game in the junior league last Friday night. Roscommon Gaels The club would like to congratulate Michael Ryan on his appointment as the Roscommon SF team manager for the rest of 2008. He is a very young man to take on such an onerous position but the club are confident that he will be successful. The Senior team face St. Barrys in The O’Rourke Cup at Dr. Hyde Park on Sunday next at 4 pm. Players attend at Hyde Park at 3 pm sharp. Senior and junior football training as usual this week at Hyde Park. Ladies Football: The Ladies senior team gave a great performance in losing to Eire Og in the winter league by only a single point. Senior Junior and U-16 training in Hyde Park Thursdays at 8.30 pm. U-14 ladies championship at home to St. Marys on Saturday 26th and at home to Western Gaels on Monday 28th. The U-10 and U-12’s girls began training last Saturday and there was a great turnout. Camogie: Roscommon Gaels U.16 camogie girls took on Oran on Wednesday evening last in a pulsating battle on a dry and sunny evening. Oran dominated the opening half but the Gaels girls never gave up with superb scores coming from midfielder Aoife McNeill (1-1),Shauna Mulry (1-0),and Orna Morris (1-0). Oran displayed great sportsmanship on the day and won on a scoreline of 4-4 to 3-1. The U-14 Ros Gaels camogie team played their final championship game on Saturday against a very skillful Four Roads side. Compliments were paid to the girls on their continued dedication since the beginning of camogie in the newly formed club and all were encouraged to continue attending training for the duration of the U-16 campaign. Thanks to management and mentors for their continued dedication towards the development of the club. Training as usual for U-14’s and U-16’s this evening Tuesday at 5 pm in Convent Pitch. Hurling: The U14 hurling panel were narrowly defeated in Tremane on Sunday last in an enjoyable and skillful game of hurling against Atleague/Tremane. Training for all members of this panel takes place on Tuesday at 5 pm in the Community College pitch.   U8 & U10 Hurling and U8 Camogie: Outdoor training for this group commences on Wednesday, 30th April at 6 pm in the Convent pitch.  Padraig Pearses U-14 Feile Final: Pearses 3-12 Clann na Gael 4-7. Padraig Pearses captured this year’s U-14 Feile with a great win in a close-fought game against Clann na nGael last Sunday in Ballyforan. We wish them all the best in Cavan at the end of June. O’Rourke Cup Senior Football: Pearses 0-11 Roscommon Gaels 0-10.  Pearses senior footballers returned to winning ways with a one-point victory over Roscommon Gaels last Wednesday evening in Ballyforan. Despite leading by 5 points going into the closing stages Pearses just held on to claim their 3rd win of the current campaign. U-16 Football Championship: Pearses U-16’s had a fine win against St. Brigid’s in the championship.  Boyle  The jackpot was not won in last week’s Club Lotto draw which was held in the Moving Stairs. The following were the €20 winners: John and Patricia Cummins, Carmel Goldrick, Sean Purcell, Eugene and Mary Halligan, Barry Lowe, E. This week’s draw will be held in An Craoibhín on Saturday night and it will be run by Team C under Kathleen Hanmore. The jackpot will be €2,600.   On the playing fields the Feelystone junior team lost to Shannon Gaels in Croghan on Sunday on the scoreline of 2-5 to 1-4. Their next game will be against Kilglass Gaels on weekend of 10th/11th May. The McGovern Directional Drilling team had no game last weekend but it is expected that they will meet Kilmore this weekend on a date to be determined (see fixtures). They are also awaiting news of the scheduling of the often postponed game via Oran.   The under 14s start their league campaign with a match against Castlerea in the Abbey Park on this Thursday evening at 7 pm. They will meet Roscommon Gaels in their next game on Monday evening next, 28th April in Hyde Park.   The under 16s will play the County Semi Final versus Clan na Gael this weekend – see fixtures for date, time and venue.  There will be no under 12 training on this Sunday only because many of our players will be receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation. Congratulations to Pat Goldrick who was a key part of last year’s successful Feile organising committee which was the recipient of an award in the Leitrim People of the Year Awards on Saturday night.  Kilglass Gaels Kilglass Gaels had a mixed week on the playing field, playing four &  winning two. The Siobhan McHugh sponsored U-14 girls had a  comprehensive  win over Eire Og on Tuesday evening and got their championship challenge back on track. They now play Strokestown at home this week.   Our Patrick Harte sponsored U-14 boys were not as lucky as they  bowed out to St. Aidans in the division three competition of the Feile. The team played well and its a good test for them as they are out in the first round of the league away to St. Ronans on Thursday at 7 pm.  Our Rooskey Transport sponsored U-16 boys were unlucky  not to collect points against St Michaels in the league on Friday last.  They now play Kilbride at home in the championship quarter final on Sunday at 12pm. Finally our Paddy Kiernan sponsored Junior b team had a two -point win over Ballinameen in the league on Sunday.  Well done to Diarmuid Connellan & the Roscommon minor team on their win against Leitrim on Saturday last. Also well done to Louise Cox, Rebecca Coyle and Katie King who lined out for Roscommon in the u-14 Connacht championship.  We wish Emma Compton & Linda Corcoran and manager Gerard Nugent and the Roscommon minor lades team the best of luck as they start their Connacht campaign against Sligo on Saturday  Check fixtures for details. Minor  Strokestown  Our under 16 team had a successful start to the championship on Monday last in Strokestown when they overcame Castlerea St. Kevin’s by the narrowest of margins, 1.15 to 4.5. Team:, Michael Sullivan, Chris Perrin, Ian Rogers, Fred Dolan, John McAuliffe, Philip O’Donoghue, Thomas Hanley 0.1, Colin Compton 1.6, Niall Curley 0.3, Kevin Finn 0.2, Shane Cox 0.1, Leo Cauneen 0.1, Justin Murphy, Cathal Compton, Thomas Corcoran 0.1, Patrick Greene, Cian Gibbons, Eddie Cosgrove, Patrick McHugh, Jack Thame, Cathal McHugh, Darren Galvin. The team are now through to the semi final of the championship against St. Dominick’s. This game is fixed for Saturday at 4pm. See fixtures for venue. We would like to see a good crowd from Strokestown at the game supporting the team. There will be a registration evening for all under age players on Wednesday 30th. New players very welcome to attend.  On Tuesday evening 15th April our U-14 team put up a fantastic performance against Boyle with a final scoreline of Strokestown 5-9 to Boyle 0-5. Scorers on the evening – Ashling Mac Aullife 2-3, Bronagh McHugh 2-2, Colleen Cosgrove 1-2, Grainne Kelly 0-1, Rebecca Mulloolly 0-1 and Judy McDermott 0-1. This is the girls’ 2nd victory in 3 games. Congratulations girls!  After a slow start the Junior team came from a point down against Shannon Gaels to win 5-8 to 0-8. Next game: Sunday 27/04 v St. Barrys. Four Roads  On Sunday last the County Roscommon Junior team played Galway at Tisrara Community Park in the Junior League. The girls won on a scoreline of 11-09 to 0-05. We would like to congratulate them on this result and in particular Donna Kelly and Niamh Coyle who are on the panel and Martina Finneran who is part of the management team.  Juniors: Training on Friday evening at 7:30 in the park. The semi final of the winter league will take place on Sunday April 27th in Tisrara Community Park at 2:00 (against Boyle). Please support. Kilbride  Kilbride Junior Ladies will contest the Senior League Semi Final next weekend, Sunday 27th, having come second in their group. Opponents are yet unknown and a venue will be decided later on in the week. Training continues as normal on Wednesday at 8.00 p.m. and on Friday at 8.30 p.m. Hurling  Four Roads  Last Sunday our U-21 hurlers completed the 4 in a row. That’s hard to win at any sport, age or level so well done lads. The final score was Four Roads 1-09 to St. Domnics 0-07. The team was D Dowd, M Carty, M McLoughlin, J Coyle, J Donnelly, P Kelly, M Rogerson, J Moran, K Waldron, S Higgins, D Dolan, A Higgins, J Coyne, A Lawlor, E Rogerson, B Mee and K Dowd.
