PADRAIG PEARSES Minor Football League: Pearses 1-6 St Ciarans 0-7. Our minor team had a good win against St. Ciaran’s in the league last week. We got off to a great start when a good move including an excellent pass from Ciaran O’Shea found Padraig Corbett who finished calmly to the net. This early lead was never relinquished with a workman like team effort. David Donnellan’s brilliant save midway through the first half proved vital at the end. St. Ciaran’s drew level with 10 minutes to go but a pointed free from Sean Ryan and a well taken score from James Kelly saw us record a two point win at the end. U-14 Feile League: Pearses 5-11 St Brigids 1-0: Our U14’s started this year’s Feile competition with a good win against St. Brigid’s. Pearses adapted better to the very poor weather conditions and led at half time by 3-05 to 0-00 and with Cormac Clogher and Darren Corcoran taking some fine points aided well by Darren Kelly they ran out comfortable winners in the end. Best for Pearses were: Adrian Mannion, Eoin Glennon, Darren Greene, Ronan Daly, Cormac Clogher and Darren Kelly. ST AIDANS The Juniors got their first league game of the season of to a successful start with a good victory over Fuerty on Saturday evening, on a final score line of 1-7 to 0-9. With the excellent turnout we had on Saturday, and the good result we hope this will give us a good platform for a good Junior campaign this year. The Seniors have their 2nd O’Rourke Cup Game this Wednesday 2nd April against Padraig Pearses in Ballyforan at 8pm under lights. All support would be greatly appreciated. Also, Club membership is also due & all management are asked to collect membership. Martin Kenny the Club Registrar is available to take membership from all interested in becoming a club member. His contact number is 087-9836508. BOYLE The weather has been literally a spoilsport during the past week with the Feelystone team’s Division 4 league game versus Kilglass falling victim. The McGovern Directional Drilling teams game also did not take place. It is expected that they will play Kilglass Gaels in Kilglass this coming weekend (see fixtures for details). The U-14’s had a successful week in the Feile competition having had convincing wins over Strokestown and St. Michael’s. Their next game is against Kilbride. The U-16 game versus St. Brigid’s did not take place last weekend. They will be in action against Michael Glaveys in Ballinlough at the weekend. The club wishes to congratulate the ‘forever young’ Sean Young who has just commenced his thirty sixth season as coach to Boyle teams and his enthusiasm is as great as ever. The club is anxious to recruit more volunteers to assist with the fortnightly Lotto. This is the lifeblood of the club and all help will be greatly appreciated. CASTLEREA ST KEVIN’S Our Gilmartin’s Cash & Carry sponsored senior team are scheduled to play Kilmore in Kilmore on Sunday next at 2.30pm in the O’Rourke Cup. Travel arrangements will be agreed with players at training on Thursday night next. Our junior team are scheduled to play St Michael’s in the Division IV league in Cootehall also on Sunday next. This game was a victim of the weather last weekend as was our Tansey cup game against Padraig Pearses. A very important meeting of the Minor Club will be held in the O’Rourke Centre on Thursday Night next 3rd April at 9.00pm sharp. Everyone with an interest in underage football in the club is requested to attend. Well done to Roscommon U-21 team on their great win over Sligo in the Connacht Championship on Saturday afternoon last. Our two representatives Enda Kenny and Michael Killilea can feel justly proud of their contributions to this success. They now play Mayo in the Connacht final in Kiltoom on Wednesday evening 9th April at 6.30pm. Unfortunately Roscommon Senior team did not fare as well against Westmeath on Sunday last. They have two tough games left, away to Dublin and home to Cavan, and must win both to have any chance of retaining Div II status in the league next year; we wish them the best of luck. CLANN NA GAEL The Clann na nGael U-14 team travelled to Salthill on Sunday last to take part in the home clubs tournament which also featured Eire Og (Carlow) and Castlebar Mitchell’s (Mayo). U-8’s and U-10’s boys and girls training on Sunday 7th April at 11.15am in Johnstown. Best wishes are also extended to St. Aloysius College who are due to play their re-arranged All-Ireland semi-final against Munster champions Kenmare next Saturday 6th April in Limerick. CROAN’S The last week has been a busy time for St. Croans with U-14, U-16, Junior and Intermediate action. On Holy Saturday the intermediate team got their O’Gara cup off to a winning start when they defeated Tulsk in a hard fought game in Tulsk. Tulsk were in the game until the final minutes and Croans worked hard for their well deserved victory. The junior team had their first outing on Sunday last in Kilbride and were winners on a one point margin. Croan’s started slowly & thanks to a goal in the 25th minute were one point behind at the interval. It was level pegging throughout the second half but Croans did enough to secure the win despite a last minute goal for Kilbride. The U-16 team had two good wins during the week. On Easter Monday they travelled to Ballinameen and comprehensively defeated the home side while a very strong first half performance victory over Elphin on Sunday last. The U-14 team were defeated in the féile competition by Clan na nGael on Wednesday last. EIRE OG The weather played havoc with all club matches fixed for this weekend. Both the Division Four Junior League match and the U-16 game against Shannon Gaels were postponed due to the inclement weather. The Intermediate team are due to play St. Michaels at home this Saturday in the O’Gara Cup. Check fixtures for details. The club would like to wish the county U-21 side all the best in the upcoming Connacht final clash with Mayo. The team lifted some of the gloom that currently surrounds Roscommon football with their great comeback win over Sligo at the weekend. Keep it up lads. KILGLASS GAELS A belated congratulations to our figure dancing team of Linda Corcoran, Shiofra Jordan, Karen Cruise, Laura Keaveney, Emer Reynolds, Laura Coyle, & Louise & Nicola Tully & their mentors of Martina & Natalie McHugh on winning the county figure dancing title on Good Friday. Last weekend they competed in the Connacht finals in Manorhamilton but unfortunately we had no silverware to bring home but well done to all again. KILMORE The National Automation sponsored minor team drew with St. Dominic’s on Wednesday last in Knockcroghery. The team has now qualified for the league semi final, fixture details for which will be announced in the coming weeks. Our U-16 games against St. Barry’s and Oran were called off due to the weather. The U-16 team are due to play St. Michael’s on this Sunday in Cootehall at 12pm. Our senior team will play Castlerea in Kilmore in the league on this Sunday at 2.30pm. ROSCOMMON GAELS Well done to the Gaels junior team who beat St. Brigid’s in the Division IV league last Saturday evening in Hyde Park by 2-7 to 0-12. Senior training in Hyde Park on Friday nights at 8.30 pm. Congratulations to Michael Ryan, the manager of the Roscommon U-21 team and Gaels players David O’Gara, James McDermott, Paul Gleeson, Brian O’Gara and Robbie Gaynor who were all part of the panel who beat Sligo in the Connacht semi final on Saturday. Congratulations to David O’Gara who was named as man of the match. The club were very annoyed at the manner of the circumstances in which the Roscommon v Westmeath game was moved at the weekend. The Hyde Park pitch was inspected and declared playable on Saturday, yet the game was moved. The U-14 footballers are playing Tulsk in the Feile competition at Hyde Park this week. Check with the team management for details. The Gaels U-16 team play Western Gaels in Frenchpark on Thursday evening at 6.45pm. Team will leave from Hyde Park at 5.30pm sharp. The team will play Padraig Pearses in Hyde Park next Sunday at 12 noon. The U-16 team beat Clann na nGael by 4-10 to 2-10 in the league last week. BARRY’S Draw Presentation to take place in Costello’s. After all the hard work with St. Barry’s draw it is now time to present the prizes to the winners and have a little celebration. So we all head to Costello’s this Saturday night to present all the prizes and reflect on the great success of the draw. We hope to see all winners, ticket sellers and anybody else who wants to come along. Proceedings will get under way at 9.30pm or so. Tee times 1.30-2.30pm. Hurling: Our U-21 match was cancelled last weekend and may now be played next week. Training takes place this Tuesday evening for all U-21, Senior and Junior Players at 8pm. Our Minor team played Kilmore on Wednesday last in Knockcroghery and despite been on top for most of the game had to settle for a draw in the end. However this was enough to secure a Semi-Final league place and this will be played some time in early May. Naos Connaughton, Gary Noonan, Brian Mullally and Shane Diffley were outstanding on the day, but the overall team performance was encouraging. Training takes place on Thursday at 7.30 and Sat at 7pm. Our U-16 footballers played St. Aidan’s in Ballyforan on Sunday last and came away with a hard-earned victory on a scoreline of 2-11 to 2-8. RONAN’S Our U-16’s team went to Kilbride on Sunday and received a walk-over. Our U-14 team were beating by a stronger Kilbride team on Wednesday in Kilbride. JOSEPH’S The date for the St. Joseph’s club draw has been changed to Sunday, 20th April at 10pm in ‘Down the Hatch’ pub. Tickets (€20 each) are still available from club members. Training continues at 7pm on Saturday in Kilteevan pitch. All players are asked to attend. STROKESTOWN Both senior and junior games fell foul to the weather last weekend. The seniors were due to play St. Barry’s in Tarmon on Friday night but heavy rain the night before left the pitch unplayable. The juniors were due to play Kilglass Gaels on Saturday evening in Strokestown but again the heavy rain left the pitch at Farnbeg unplayable. The senior game this coming weekend against St. Brigid’s has been postponed to a further date due to the number of players from St. Brigid’s involved with the Roscommon U21s in the Connacht Final. TULSK This Thursday evening at 8.30 a meeting of the club executive will be held in the clubrooms. After this, at 9.30 a general club meeting will be held. Tulsk meet Dominic’s in the O’Gara Cup this Sunday morning at 11.30 and training continues for Junior and Intermediate teams as planned. Any people that have moved into the area in recent times and that have an interest in GAA games, either as players or supporters, should make themselves known to the club. Their input would be very much appreciated. MINOR STROKESTOWN Our U-14 team lost out to Boyle in the first round of the Feile on Wednesday last in Boyle. This was our first game of the year and while everyone tried hard the home team were the stronger and finished deserving winners by 3-12 to 2-7. Team Training times are as follows: U-8/10 – Friday 6.00 in Kiltrustan; U-12 Wednesday 6.00 in Kiltrustan; U-14 – Tuesday evening at 6.30, Shevlin Park. HURLING ORAN The U-21 hurling county semi-final against Four Roads which was cancelled last weekend due to a waterlogged pitch has now been refixed for Four Roads at 5.30pm on Saturday next. FOUR ROADS Our U-12 hurlers played Ballygar in the Suck Valley shield semi-final last Sunday in Four Roads. It was a good game of hurling with very little between the teams, but Four Roads finished on top with a scoreline of 1-2 to 1-0. This Saturday in Woodmount, we play the final at 12 o’clock. LADIES STROKESTOWN Congratulations to our Junior team who displayed a fine performance in defeating a galant St. Dominic’s team last Sunday. The game was played in a good spirit in very windy conditions. This was our second victory in two winter league games. A great turnout of 24 players togged on the day and the victory was down to a great team performance once again. Training continues in Kiltrustan on Saturday evening at 6pm. Best of luck to our county representatives next weekend. FOUR ROADS U-14: Our girls played Clan na nGael in the Feile competition there recently but were unsuccessful on this occasion. Training as usual. Junior – The girls played last on Monday, March 24th against Western Gaels in Frenchpark. They gave a sterling performance and won on a scoreline of 8-6 to 3-5 Training on Friday at 7:00. Our next match is on April 13th – time, venue and opposition to be advised. ST. CROAN’S The Junior ladies were in action again last Monday (24th), in a well-contested game against St. Barry’s. The game finished in a draw with both teams finishing on 3-5. CAMOGIE ATHLEAGUE The U-14 team travel to Knockcroghery on Thursday evening for a game against St. Dominic’s. All players are requested to be in Knockcroghery at 5.30 p.m. The game commences at 6.00 p.m. sharp. The re-scheduled first round game against Four Roads which was due to take place on Friday last had to be cancelled again due to the state of the pitches. This game will be refixed by the fixtures committee. The two games scheduled for the Senior team in the Spring League and the Galway League had to be post-poned due to unplayable pitches. These games will be refixed. A great night was had by all at the Sports Partnership Personality Awards Dinner Dance on Friday night last. The Club would like to once again congratulate Mary Finneran on winning the Camogie Award, David McConn for winning the Hurling Award and Fuerty Club for winning the Club of the Year Award. It was a great honour for the parish to have 3 winners on the night. Three Club members attended the Annual Congress of the Camogie Association at the weekend in the Hodson Bay Hotel, as part of the Organising Committee for the County Board. The members who attended were Leas Cathaoirleach, Caoilfhionn Ni Chuinn, Runai, Marion Conway and PRO, Ciara Moran.
