ROSCOMMON GAELS There is no fixture this weekend for the adult football teams. The senior hurlers take part in the Sean Keane Cup on Friday. Details on fixture list and at training. The annual Ger Michael Grogan tournament will take place (weather permitting) in Hyde Park on Easter Monday. Every footballer in the club ladies and men from 16 upwards are asked to attend on the day at 11.30am. Beginners, U-10s and U-12s registration night on Friday 18th April at the Hyde centre. U-12 ladies football will begin on Saturday 19th April at 11.45am in Hyde Park. More details later. U-14 Hurling : Last week’s game Vs Clonguish was called off. Training continues this week. U-12 Hurling : the 2007 County Champions are marching in the Easter Parade next Sunday. All players will be contacted. Camogie: The U-14 Camogie girls took on Oran on Saturday last on a wet and windy evening. A great performance by everyone with a dramatic improvement from the previous week. Credit to the girls for great attendance considering the conditions. The girls were not victorious although they played extremely well. Well done to all concerned. U-14’s are due to play Athleague next weekend so full attendance is vital. Congrats: The club would like to extend its congratulations to former senior player Ross Shannon and Patricia who got married recently. Executive meeting: There will be an Executive meeting on Thursday night March 19th in the Hyde Centre at 9pm. The club will hold a General meeting Tuesday night next at 9pm in the Hyde Centre. TULSK The first 300-club draw of 2008 was held in front of a large crowd on Saturday night in Canny’s bar. Martin Devine won the trip to Rome with spending money, Christy Jones won €500 and Catherine Conlon won €250, with Paul Beirne, James Rodgers, Seamus Casserly, John Nolan, Gerard Nolan and Club legend George Kelly all picking up €100. Training continues as normal for Junior and Intermediate players. There is a fundraiser for the Tulsk Parish defibrillator fund on Saturday night in the Tulsk Inn and the club would appreciate support. STROKESTOWN The junior team was in action against St. Joseph’s in Kilteevan last weekend in the Tansey Cup and after 60 mins the sides finished level 2-5 to 1-8 The senior team is due to play near neighbours St. Barry’s next weekend in the O’Rourke cup in Tarmon. ST JOSEPHS Tansey Cup : A second half come back where we scored 1-4 to 0-1 for Strokestown was enough to share the spoils at Kilteevan on Saturday evening last. Final score 1-8 to 2-5. ST FAITHLEACHS Social & Presentation Night : We held our first Social & Presentation Night in the new Clubhouse on Friday last. A great night was had by all. MC on the night, Gerry Donlon welcomed everyone. Special Guest, Pat Lindsay could not attend owing to the death of his mother, Sarah Lindsay earlier in the week. The Club offered deepest sympathy to Pat & his family and one minute’s silence was observed. A number of presentations were made on the night, presented by Mickey Kelly, President of the Club: Player of the Year – Diarmuid Thompson. Club Person of the Year – Mary Kenny. Walter Burke, Manager, Gerry Byrne & Gerard O’Donnell, Selectors were presented with awards for their commitment and dedication for 2006 & 2007. Steven Ormsby was presented with an award for his achievement with Roscommon County Minor Team, All-Ireland Winners 2006. Boyle: St. Dominics 2nd string were heavily defeated on Saturday last. Up against Boyle’s first team, there was a gulf in class but they will take solace in the fact that Boyle are strong favourites to win the competition and maybe even the Junior Championship. Trevor Brennan and Paul O Connor made welcome returns after almost a year out. Best for St. Dominics were Seamie "The Cat" Gilleran who made some awesome saves and the hardworking full back line of Padraig Carney, David Corcoran and Trevor Brennan. Training continues Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm.Ladies Football : U-14 Feile game between ourselves and Four Roads last Sunday (March 16th) was an enjoyable game with Four Roads coming out on top. We wish them all the best in the Feile Competition. U-12 : training commences on Tuesday 1st April from 6.30-730pm. We play Castlerea in the League on Easter Monday in Knockcroghery. Recent death: The Death took place last weekend of one of our Club legends Mick Davis. Mick played in 11 County Senior Football finals winning 6. The Club formed a guard of honour at his funeral. We offer our sympathy to the Davis Family. The game is fixed for Sunday but it is hoped that it may be changed to Saturday evening. Posters will be displayed locally if the game is changed and the club urges everyone to come out and support the team at the weekend. Our U-16 team begin their league campaign on Easter Monday at 12pm against St Barrys in Kilmore. The club wishes all its members a very happy Easter. EIRE OG The Minor team suffered a 3-10 to 1-7 reversal at the hands of a strong Clann na nGael team on Sunday. CLANN NA NGAEL Clanns Night at the Dogs is next Saturday 22nd March at Mullingar Greyhound Stadium. Buses will collect race goers at Connaughton’s Pub and the Athlone Springs Hotel at 5.30 pm. The first race is at 7.45pm. The event is both a fundraiser and a social night out for all. History was made on Saturday last in Cushla Park, Monksland when the first match involving a Clann team was played there. The Clann U-14’s defeated Abbeyknockmoy by 1 point 4-10 to 4-9 in a very competitive game. The distinction of getting the 1st score in Monksland fell to Ruadhrai McManus who pointed on the run. Ultan Harney bagged the first goal. The team are preparing for their first match in Feile Peil na nOg on Wednesday week. Clann 3- 10 Eire Og 1-7: Clann minor team chalked up a good win on Sunday in the first competitive game to be played in the Monksland GAA Pitch. Clann led this game from start to finish after Darragh Lennon opened the scoring after 3 minutes and while the outcome was seldom in doubt, Eire Og pushed them all the way. Clann Ladies – Feile Peil na nOg : Clann 4-7 St Ciarans 3-6: Clann U-14 girls had a hard fought win over St Ciarans in Monksland on Sunday in the Preliminary round of Feile. In a weekend of firsts they became the first ladies team from the Club to play a match in this venue and for the record Katie Rock became the first girl to score here with an early goal. Clann were losing by 2 points at half time but upped their game on the resumption to record a good victory. They now play Four Roads in the next round next weekend. CASTLEREA ST KEVIN’S The Tansey Cup game scheduled for Sunday last fell victim to the weather; there is no definite date for the re fixture. Our next game in the O’Rourke Cup is against St Brigids in O’Rourke Park on Sunday next at 2.30pm. Our Junior team is scheduled to play Tulsk in the Div IV league in O’Rourke Park at 4.15pm, immediately after the senior game. Training continues in O’Rourke Park on Thursday night at 8pm sharp; all players, senior, intermediate and junior should be present for all training sessions. CAMOGIE ATHLEAGUE The Annual Sponsored Walk will take place on Easter Monday commencing at 12 noon from the Community Centre, Athleague. Any member who has not yet received a sponsorship card should contact Club Secretary, Marion Conway. All members taking part in the Walk should assemble at the Community Centre at 11.45 a.m. sharp. There will be a prize for the member who collects the most money and there will also be a prize on the day of the walk. The Indoor Camogie for the 2007/08 season came to an end on Friday night last. A party was held after the session in the Community Centre. Any player who did not attend for registration on Friday night last can still register on Easter Monday after the walk or at the under-age training sessions. Players are requested to bring along their membership fees on the night of registration. The Club’s U-14 team was unable to play Four Roads in the opening round of the U-14 championship due to the inclement weather. This fixture will be played during the Easter holidays. The Club would like to congratulate the AFK girls Table Tennis team who won the County Final recently. Well done to both teams and their management teams LADIES FOUR ROADS U-14 – our girls played St Dominics in the first Feile match on Sunday last and were victorious on a score line of 3-5 to 1-2.
