ROSCOMMON GAELS A very successful registration night for U-14 and U-16 and minor girls and boys took place in the Hyde Centre last Saturday. Thanks to special guest Fergal O’Donnell and to Paul Gleeson and David O’Gara for their attendance. Well done to Decie Hoare, Teresa Hession and the committee for their organisation. The O’Rourke Cup game Vs Kilbride did not go ahead last Sunday because of the bad weather. Senior and Junior football training on Wednesdays and Fridays at Hyde Park. The annual Ger Michael Grogan Tournament will take place on Easter Monday 24th March. There will be a ladies tournament as well. Youth disco in The Hyde Centre on Friday night 14th March 9.30 – 12.30am. Strictly no alcohol. Meeting: A minor board meeting will be held on Thursday 13th in the Hyde at 9pm sharp. A full attendance is expected at this very important meeting. Ladies football: U-14 Feile game Vs St Brigids in Kiltoom next Sunday. All U-14 players meet at Hyde Park at 11am. U-16 minor and senior training Thursday 13th March at 8.15pm in Hyde Park.  Camogie: History was created on Saturday last as Roscommon Gaels camogie got back on the road after a lapse of 15 yrs. The U-14s took on St. Dominics in Knockroghery. The girls put in a great performance but unfortunately were not victorious on the day. Training continues on Tuesdays in the Convent gym from 5-6pm for both U-14’s and U-16’s. Girls are asked to be there at 4.45pm.The U-14s will play Oran in the Hyde at 5pm on Saturday next. Players are asked to meet at 4.15pm at the Hyde. U-14 Hurling: Our U-14 hurlers suffered defeat to Four Roads in first round of their championship. Good second half performance. Players are encouraged to keep practicing.  U-12 Hurling: indoor hurling continues Thursday at 5pm in Convent Gym. This is last indoor session U-8 and U-10 Hurling: Indoor Hurling on Friday in Convent Gym. U-8s 4-5pm, U-10s 5-6pm. This is the final indoor session of 2008.  ST FAITHLEACHS  Social & Presentation Night: Our first Social & Presentation Night will be held in the new Clubhouse on Friday 14th March 9 pm sharp. Music by Jimmy Hussey. Tickets €25. Please support. Lotto: Next draw on 18th March in the Clubhouse for a Jackpot of €5,200, plus Easter Draw on the night also. Sympathy: The Club extends deepest sympathy to Martina & Gerry Trautt & Family on the death of Martina’s mother, Bridget Clayton, Athleague.  St. Patrick’s Day: The Club is taking part in the upcoming St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Lanesboro on Sunday 16th March at 3 pm. Players under every age group are welcome to attend. If you are interested in taking part, please notify your Manager. Meet at the Clubhouse at 2 pm. ST DOMINICS Well done to Niall Byrne and Stephen Farrell and Athlone Community College team who captured the Leinster Colleges ‘A’ Title for the first time on Sunday last. Senior Football: St. Dominics 1-7 Michael Glaveys 0-7 – St. Dominics got off to a steady start in their attempt to bounce back up to Senior League in Ballinlough. The full back line was as solid as ever for St. Dominics while Declan Brennan was the man of the match for his consistency and class. Training continues Wednesdays & Fridays @ 8pm Tansey Cup: We play Boyle on Saturday in Knockcroghery in the Tansey Cup at 5pm. Minors: Our Minor team plays Kilmore on Sunday in Knockcroghery at 1pm. Training continues as usual on Thursday at 7.30pm. Our U-16s played St Brigids in a challenge on Sunday last. Both Teams were short regulars but nevertheless it was a worthwhile exercise for both. The Club offer its sympathy to the Kelly family, Fearagh, Ballymurray and the Kelly Family, Glanduff on their recent bereavements. ST CROANS Due to the inclement weather during the week, the pitch in Enfield was unplayable and the O’Gara cup game against St. Michaels was postponed.  The Junior team is due to play St. Faithleachs in Enfield next weekend.  ST BRIGIDS Lotto: Jackpot this week €7,600. Anyone who would like to become involved please make contact the Chair or Secretary of the committee. Ladies football is definitely on the move in the parish. St. Barry’s Draw: All tickets and money must be back by Friday 14th March. It is essential that we reach our target so if you have not sold your allocation of tickets an all out effort must be made in the coming five days.  Minor: We play Ballinameen at 12 noon in Tarmonbarry on Sunday. Congrats to Jonathan Harte who has been elected Captain and Raymond Rogers who has been elected Vice Captain for the year ahead. Senior: St.Barry’s lost out to St. Faithleach’s in the senior league game played at Tamonbarry on Sunday last. A good hardy Faithleach’s side eventually ran out easy winners but credit to our lads for putting up a brave display.  Junior Reserves: Barry’s Junior Reserve team is coming together and will participate in Div. 4 and Junior Championship. Sympathy: We extend sympathy to Padraig Thompson and family, Tonycurneen, Scramogue on the sudden death of Padraig’s brother Francis which took place in Carlow town last week. May he rest in peace. ST AIDANS  The Seniors suffered their first defeat against Kilmore in the first round of the league on a scoreline of 0-11 to 0-7. The Minors continued their good run in the league with a win over Boyle in Ballyforan on a scoreline of 2-8 to 0-7. Congratulations to Johnny Coyne on winning the Leinster Schools final with Athlone CC last Sunday. PADRAIG PEARSES Pearses 3-6 Elphin 0-10: Pearse’s O’Rourke campaign got off to a good start in a cold and windy Pairc an Phiarsaigh last Sunday. Best for Pearses were John Whyte, Enda Barrett, Pat Connell, Gerry Kelly, Sean Fahy and Eana Ryan. Ladies Football Notes: A big thanks’ to all the players, parents and mentors who attended the presentation night in the club last weekend. Special guest on the night was Galway footballer Michael Meehan. U-14 training continues on Monday nights at 7 pm. Ladies Senior football League: Roscommon Gaels 1-5 Padraig Pearses 1-5: A youthful but determined Pearses team opened their 2008 league campaign with an away draw against a strong Roscommon Gaels team. National Schools 7-a-side: The Paul Flynn sponsored National Schools 7-a-side Football Blitz took place last Thursday and was a great success. Thank you to all that helped out. MICHAEL GLAVEYS U-14 training for both girls and boys at 7pm in Ballinlough every Tuesday night. The Intermediate team was beaten by St Domnics by 1-8 to 0-8. Thanks to all the players who made themselves available for the presentation of the Michael Keane Cup medals recently.  Padraig Beirne’s team will promote the club lotto this week. KILMORE  Our Senior Team defeated St. Aidan’s in their opening game of the O’Rourke Cup 0-11 to 0-7. This team is due to play Western Gaels in Kilmore Easter weekend. The Junior Team plays Kilglass in Kilmore on Saturday evening at 5p.m. KILGLASS GAELS The annual & 25th anniversary Dinner Dance was held in the Shannon Key  West Hotel on Friday night. It was a very enjoyable night with guest  of honour Dermot Earley and other special guests Martin McDermott &  Michael McGuire present. Congratulations to all who received awards for 2007. Well done to Michael McHugh and his committee for organising a very successful and enjoyable night.  Coaching was suspended last week due to the bad weather. KILBRIDE Minor League – The Kilbride Minor Team recently played St. Aidans in the league. The first half of the game was very close with both teams scoring well. In the second half, St. Aidans appeared stronger and were comfortable winners. The final score was 4-11 to 2.7.  Last Sunday, the minor team was in action again this time against St. Croans. This was also a close game and in the end St. Croans were victorious by 2 points.  EIRE OG The club’s race night is on Sunday 16th March, in Creaton’s, Lisacul. A great night’s craic and quality racing is guaranteed. All support greatly appreciated. The Intermediate team opened up their O’Gara Cup League campaign with a battling draw at home to Clann na nGael – final score 0-7 apiece. Next up is a clash with Clann na nGael’s second team at Johnstown on Saturday week. A Division Four League game is due to be played this weekend. Check fixtures for details.  The Ladies got their winter league off to an impressive start with a good 0-15 to 0-4 win over Clann na nGael. Training continues every Tuesday at 8pm. Keeping up the Eire Og/Clann na nGael tête-à-tête, the minor lads team are at home to the South Roscommon outfit this Sunday at 12 noon. Support appreciated. The following under-age management teams were appointed at the recent Bord na nOg AGM – U-10: Liam Walshe, Anthony Cahill, Donal Woods and Paul Groarke; U-12: Pat Finan and John Dolan; U-14: James Lavin, Declan Woods and Tom Morgan; U-16: Ray Doorey, Keith Johnson and James Dolan. CREGGS O’Gara Cup: Creggs 5-5 Tulsk 1-5. Creggs got their league campaign off to a good start with a hard earned win against Tulsk in Mulhern Park on Saturday last. With the pitches in Creggs and Tulsk unplayable, great credit and thanks are due to Fuerty GAA club for making their facilities available to hold the game at short notice.  Training continues at the pitch every Wednesday night at 8pm. CLANN NA NGAEL O’Gara Cup: Clann na nGael 0-5 Shannon Gaels 1-11: The 2nd team lost their opening game of the league to a strong Shannon Gaels team in Johnstown last Saturday evening. In difficult conditions Clann fought hard throughout but a goal conceded midway through the first half left the team fighting an uphill battle for the rest of the game. Eire Og 0-7 Clann na nGael 0-7: The senior team drew with Eire Og in Loughglynn on Sunday last in the opening game of the league. Heavy underfoot condition meant that good football was hard to come by over the hour.  Ladies Senior League: Eire Og 0-15 Clann na nGael 0-5 Club Merchandising: Anyone interested in getting the new jackets or any club merchandise can contact Breda McManus Punchestown Races: Anyone interested in going to Punchestown for the Roscommon GAA Fundraising Day on April 24th should give €160 to Dermot Kelly. CASTLEREA ST KEVIN’S Jackie Cleary R.I.P: The Club was saddened on Saturday last to learn of the death of former Club Player Jack (Jackie) Cleary. Jackie gave great service to the Tarmon and Castlerea Clubs for many years. He was a member of the 1952 Tarmon Minor Team beaten in the West Roscommon Championship by Loughglynn who went on to win the County Title. He won a County Junior Championship with Castlerea in 1957, and a Senior Championship in 1967 when he captained the team. He won three O’Rourke Cup Senior Football league medals in 1959, 1966/67 and 1967/68. He won a Connacht Junior Football championship medal with Roscommon in 1959, but the team lost by two points to Kerry in the All Ireland Semi-final, a game which Jackie missed through injury; he also played Senior League and Championship with Roscommon. To his brother Seamus, his sister and his extended family we extend our sincere sympathy. We also extend sincere sympathy to Tony Gavin, Main St, on the untimely death of his brother Eamon. O’Rourke Cup: Our senior team had a great win over Strokestown on Sunday last in O’Rourke Park; this was a very encouraging start to the year and even more encouraging was the number of younger players who were part of the team; before the game both teams lined up alongside the referee in the centre of the field and observed a minute’s silence as a mark of respect to the late Jackie Cleary; the next game is at home to St Brigids on weekending 22nd March. Tansey Cup: Our Clasby Beale Associates sponsored intermediate team play St Aidan’s in the Tansey Cup on Saturday evening next at 5 pm in O’Rourke Park; all players should be in the dressing room no later than 4 pm. Congratulations: Heartiest congratulations to club player Claire Raftery who captained the Garda college team to All-Ireland victory in the third level colleges rugby competition.  ST RONANS Under 10 and 12 training on this Friday evening under lights in Ballyfarnon at 7pm bring suitable training gear. Under 16 training in Ballyfarnon on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7pm, first match on 24th of March. Under 14 training on Monday evenings at 7pm in Keadue and indoor training on Friday nights at 7pm in Keadue hall.  ST MICHAELS There was No Match 4 or Match 3 Winners in the Lotto held in Henry’s Pub last weekend. The numbers drawn were 2,4,5,12. The 5 draw winnere were – Pat Cooney, Leixlip, Vincent Moffat, Rockingham, Paul Kearns, Smutternagh, Paddy Farrell, Derryherk, & Cathal Daly, Cleen. Next Lotto due to take place in Clancy’s Pub on Sat 22th March. All U-8 & U-10 Coaches are requested to attend an important meeting in the the Abbey Hotel, Roscommon this Wednesday evening 12th March at 8.30pm sharp. This is to launch the Go-Games manual & fixtures schedule for the summer months. Also, Minor game this Sunday away to Elphin at 12 noon. Last weekend’s Intermediate League game away to Croan’s was cancelled due to waterlogged pitch. This game may be re-fixed for this weekend. There may also be a Junior game. STROKESTOWN  The senior team began their league campaign last Sunday morning in Castlerea. In a tight game Strokestown led 5-3 at half-time but at the final whistle Castlerea had just shaded it 1-8 to 0-8. See fixtures for details.  TULSK  The Roscommon GAA Race day will be held at Punchestown Race Course on Thursday the 24th of April 2008. MINOR  STROKESTOWN  There is a minor club presentation function on Saturday night 15th. March in the Percy French Hotel at 8.30 pm. Teams to be honoured are Minor championship & League Champions, Under 12 Champions & Under 14 Feile Champions. The under age player of the year will also be announced on the night.  Players from all age groups and their parents are invited and we look forward to an enjoyable night. Our minor team are in action against St. Bridgid’s on Sunday next in Kiltoom at 12 pm.  CAMOGIE ORAN  The U-14 game that was to be played against Pearses last Saturday was cancelled. The U-14s now play Roscommon Gaels on Saturday 15th at 5 pm in the Hyde Roscommon.  Junior training will take place this weekend; time and place have yet to be arranged. ATHLEAGUE  The final session of indoor camogie for the 2007/08 season comes to an end on Friday night from 7 – 8 pm. All U-12 players are invited to come along. Registration for all under-age players from U-12 to U-18 takes place on Friday at 8 p.m. sharp in the Community Centre, Athleague. The club would like to congratulate the members of the U-13 Girls Indoor Soccer Team who won the county community games soccer tournament for the first time ever. Six members of the panel are also members of the Club’s U-12 camogie team. We wish them the best of luck in the Connacht Final. The U-14 team take on Padraig Pearses in the 2nd round of the U-14 championship at the weekend. Players will be notified of the date and time of the game. The Club would like to extend sympathy to the Clayton family on the occasion of the death of Mrs. Clayton during the past week.   LADIES FOUR ROADS U-14: There will be a challenge match on Thursday 13th in Four Roads at 7 p.m., all players to be at pitch at 6:30. Next Sunday, March 16th we play our first match of the Feile competition against St Dominics in Knockcrockery. Time to be advised during the week. Juniors – On Sunday last we played against Ballinameen in Four Roads in the Winter League. We were victorious on this occasion on a score line of 6-9 to 4-7; fine displays were put in by the whole team. Our next match is on Monday March 24th away to Western Gaels. Training on Saturday at 5 pm in pitch.
