ROSCOMMON GAELS The club officials players and members were shocked and saddened at news of the death of our former chairman and long time official PJ Oates who passed away at the weekend. PJ was one of the most prominent officials of our club over many decades and he was will be fondly remembered by every Roscommon Gaels person young and old. To PJ’s family and any friends we extend our deepest sympathy. (See tribute elsewhere) The club annual social takes place on Saturday 1 st March at Hyde Centre at 9pm sharp. There will be a hot buffet and music on the night. Tickets at €25 from club officers. Minor Football: Roscommon Gaels Minors played Clann na nGael last Sunday. The Gaels conceded 4-3 in the first half. This Gaels team proved that they have great battling qualities as they chalked up 2-6 in the second half. Eoin and Daniel Hoare managed 2-2 between them along with two points from Conor Flahive and a point each from Gerard O’Gara and Ronan Gleeson to put the Gaels in a good position early in the second half. With some confident play and some dominant midfield play the Gaels held on to enough possession to secure a one point lead towards the end of the second half. Mistakes earlier in the game came back to haunt them as they went on to concede a fifth goal when leading by a point in this closest of encounters. David Kelly, manager will be encouraged by the free flowing scoring by his forwards in the second half. A slow start may be cause for concern but the manner in which the Gaels chased this game in the second half will give cause for optimism. Final score Clann na nGael 5-5 (20) Roscommon Gaels 2-11(17) Membership now due. Family €80, Single €60, Student/OAP €40. Please pay by next weekend.
