CASTLEREA ST KEVINS At the underage presentation in the O’Rourke Centre on Sunday were special guests Martin McDermott, Majella Smyth and Roger Hynes; the club also had special guests Jimmy Kenny and Tom Moylette and Gerard Heneghan and Enda Kenny; Danny Burke was MC. Martin McDermott congratulated the ladies in U-12 and Roger Hynes paid tribute to all the hurlers on their victories; he also complimented those who revived hurling in the club. Majella Smyth, in both Irish and English, complimented the club on their achievements, the officials and team management on their dedication and parents. Club minor Chairman Liam Callaghan thanked all involved with the club; he urged everyone involved to stay with it, he stressed the importance of discipline and said that Castlerea St Kevin’s always had a good reputation; he thanked Marie McDermott and her ladies committee for the refreshments served. Training for all adult players will start on Saturday at 7 pm sharp; those who have not paid their membership should do so then. CLANN NA NGAEL Clann 0-9 Strokestown 1-6: The Minors drew with Strokestown on Sunday in Johnstown. Clann dominated for long periods and lead 0-6 to 0-2 at half-time. A Strokestown goal midway through the 2 nd half brought them back into the game. Both sides held the lead after that with Strokestown getting the final point to tie the game. There is no league game next weekend. Race night in Mullingar Greyhound Stadium on Saturday 22 nd March. Tickets now available from committee members or any club officer for €30. EIRE OG The Minor team had their first outing in Division 1 of the league on Sunday playing host to neighbours Castlerea St. Kevin’s. Despite a brave, committed performance from the lads they just came up short, losing out by 3-7 to 3-5 to a Kevin’s side that are many people’s championship favourites. The club would like to thank referee Noel O’Grady for taking charge of the game at short notice after the appointed ref’ failed to turn up. Thanks for all the support. The next Minor game is at home to St. Brigid’s on Sunday week. Bord na nOg is holding an under-age presentation and registration night on Friday February 29 th in Gorthaganny Hall. A coaching session for all club goalkeepers and trainers takes place Saturday, February 16 th , at 4pm at the pitch. Club Membership for the coming year is now due. KILMORE The Minor team defeated St Ronans in Ballyfarnon on Sunday by 2-15 to 2-4 in the league. The minor team is due to play St Barrys on Sunday in the league in Kilmore. ST CROANS The large crowd in attendance at the Dinner Dance on Saturday night enjoyed the stories and wit of guest of honour GAA broadcaster, Micheál Ó Muircheartaigh. Mr Ó Muircheartaigh made presentations to the Minor double winning team of 2006 and Minor league winners, the Junior league winners and the ladies league runners-up of 2007. Many thanks go to all those who made the night a huge success. There was no rest for the wicked on Sunday when the minor management and team kicked off their league campaign against Michael Glaveys in Ballinlough. ST MICHAELS After being ten points behind at one stage in the first half, St Michaels minors staged a comeback to defeat Western Gaels by 5-7 to 2-11 in their first minor league game at home on Sunday. The next game in the minor league is due to be fixed for next weekend – see fixtures for details. The club extends sympathy on their recent bereavement to the relatives of the late Christina Monaghan (nee Flanagan), Cootehall. ST RONANS The minor team was defeated in our first league game to Kilmore in Ballyfarnon Sunday last. Although disappointed management took a lot of positives from the game. Minor training continues on a Wednesday and Friday nights in Ballyfarnon at 8pm. U-14 indoor training continues on Friday at 7pm in Keadue hall. Training for U-10 & U-12 commences on Saturday 16th February at 11 am in Ballyfarnon. U-16 meeting and training session at 7.15pm on Thursday 14th February in Ballyfarnon. Senior, U-21 and junior training on Tuesday the 19th at 8pm in Ballyfarnon. Parents and players are reminded that club membership forms are to be filled in and returned to team managers no later than the end of February. One-day first aid course in sports injuries will take place on Saturday 5th April in Keadue Hall. Indoor training session course in Tarmonbarry on Monday 18th February. MINOR STROKESTOWN Last weekend’s Minor match against Castlerea St. Kevins fell victim to the weather but Sunday’s match against Clann na nGael was played and was a most enjoyable game. The game ended in a draw that was a fair result in the end to a great tussle. Please note that there is no indoor coaching for beginners on Saturday because of community games. It resumes on Saturday week the 23 rd . The AGM of the Minor Club takes place on Sunday evening at 6.30 pm. Anyone interested in under age football and especially parents are asked to attend. TULSK Our Minor team got the year off to a good start beating St Faithleachs 2-5 to 1-6. A great display by all players, and a fine effort in the last 10 minutes to seal the victory. Weight training on Friday from 8 – 9 pm. All team members are expected to attend. U-10 football training will start on Friday 22nd February in Tulsk from 7 – 8pm. They will be no Indoor Hurling or Camogie on Saturday 16th. A Hurling coaching course takes place in St Dominics on Friday at 7pm and Saturday at 11am. As many coaches as possible urged to attend. HURLING ATHLEAGUE The Athleague annual draw will be held on Saturday night in Waldrons. Ticket sellers please note. FOUR ROADS Last weekend saw our underage hurlers out for the first time this year in the Suck Valley League against Ballyhaunis. It proved to be a very successful weekend with all four teams recording wins. Well-done lads. Next weekend sees us away to Ballinasloe. ORAN At the AGM of the Juvenile Hurling Club held in the Clubhouse Rockfield on Thursday night last a minute’s silence was observed in memory of the late Kieran Kelly a former club player and Padraic McHugh who died tragically last year. Chairman Andrew Fallon outlined the activities of the club last year while Secretary Gerry Keenan thanked everyone who helped out including team trainers, players and parents. An U-10 team was fielded for the first time in 2007 and the Secretary appealed for more help at this level. The club is considering organising indoor hurling for this age group and the help of a few more adults would make this possible. While no silverware was won in 2007 all teams competed well. Membership for the year was set at €10 and a registration day is being organised for 4pm on March 1 st for all underage players. Officers elected: Chairman Andrew Fallon, Secretary Gerry Keenan, PRO Tommy Ryan, and Registrar Eric Keegan. On Saturday the Junior hurling team was defeated by Padraic Pearses at Woodmount. Oran was short a number of regulars. This team can still qualify for a place in the semi final if they win their next game. There will be an U-21 match on Sunday next when Oran meet Roscommon Gaels in the first round of the championship. CAMOGIE FOUR ROADS Registration for all girls interested in playing Camogie in 2008 will take place on Sunday 17 th February from 5 – 6pm in Tisrara Community Centre. Membership and insurance: U-12: €10, U-14 & 16: €20, student: €25, adult: €40. U-14, U- 16 and senior leagues commence shortly so it is important for players to register on the night. Four Roads Hurling and Camogie Dinner Dance is on Friday, February 15 th in the Abbey Hotel, Roscommon. Anyone interested in attending should contact committee members for tickets. Music on the night will be by Formula 1. Tickets are currently available from members of the camogie and football clubs. Tickets are €10 each or a book of 6 for €50.
