CASTLEREA ST KEVINS At the underage presentation in the O’Rourke Centre on Sunday were special guests Martin McDermott, Majella Smyth and Roger Hynes; the club also had special guests Jimmy Kenny and Tom Moylette and Gerard Heneghan and Enda Kenny; Danny Burke was MC. Martin McDermott congratulated the ladies in U-12 and Roger Hynes paid tribute to all the hurlers on their victories; he also complimented those who revived hurling in the club. Majella Smyth, in both Irish and English, complimented the club on their achievements, the officials and team management on their dedication and parents.  Club minor Chairman Liam Callaghan thanked all involved with the club; he urged everyone involved to stay with it, he stressed the importance of discipline and said that Castlerea St Kevin’s always had a good reputation; he thanked Marie McDermott and her ladies committee for the refreshments served. Training for all adult players will start on Saturday at 7 pm sharp; those who have not paid their membership should do so then. Well done to all involved in the wonderful production of Hello Dolly last week. We extend sincere sympathy to the Guihan and O’Connell families, Knockroe on the death of Kathleen Guihan. CLANN NA NGAEL Clann 0-9 Strokestown 1-6: The Minors drew with Strokestown on Sunday in Johnstown. Clann dominated for long periods and lead 0-6 to 0-2 at half-time. A Strokestown goal midway through the 2 nd half brought them back into the game. Both sides held the lead after that with Strokestown getting the final point to tie the game. There is no league game next weekend. Race night in Mullingar Greyhound Stadium on Saturday 22 nd March. Tickets now available from committee members or any club officer for €30.  This years Club Holiday will be in Portugal in early October. EIRE OG The Minor team had their first outing in Division 1 of the league on Sunday playing host to neighbours Castlerea St. Kevin’s. Despite a brave, committed performance from the lads they just came up short, losing out by 3-7 to 3-5 to a Kevin’s side that are many people’s championship favourites. The club would like to thank referee Noel O’Grady for taking charge of the game at short notice after the appointed ref’ failed to turn up. Thanks for all the support. The next Minor game is at home to St. Brigid’s on Sunday week.  Bord na nOg is holding an under-age presentation and registration night on Friday February 29 th in Gorthaganny Hall. A coaching session for all club goalkeepers and trainers takes place Saturday, February 16 th , at 4pm at the pitch. Club Membership for the coming year is now due. Individual membership is €40; Family €50; Student/OAP/Youth €20. This must be paid ASAP to either Hugh Lynn or Seamus Regan.    The club would like to extend sympathy to the Greene family, Lisacul and also to the Morley and Reid families on their recent bereavements. KILGLASS GAELS Best of luck to our two teams in the All Ireland Scor finals in Athlone this weekend. Minor & U-16 training continues every Tuesday & Thursday at 8pm. The minors are due to play Elphin on Sunday, check fixtures for details and the U-16 league starts the 24th March. Coaching is starting in early March for all of our underage kids and there will be more details next week.  Membership is now due and payable to any club official.  The club would like to wish club member and sponsor Mel Kiernan the best of luck as he takes over the Kon Tiki for what hopefully will be a long and successful time.  The dinner dance will be held in the Shannon Key West Hotel on Friday 7th March. Music by The Formula and guest of honour will be Dermot Early.  KILMORE The Minor team defeated St Ronans in Ballyfarnon on Sunday by 2-15 to 2-4 in the league. The minor team is due to play St Barrys on Sunday in the league in Kilmore.  The club wish the best of luck to our new senior manager Anthony Carroll and his management team.  Tickets for the dinner dance are available from Mick Feely, Carmelita Caslin, Gerry Connellan, Frank Dennehy and Brian Carroll. All members are asked to support the dinner dance. Membership of the club is now due and all members are encouraged to pay their membership as soon as possible. Congratulations to Colm and Paul Garvey who were members of the successful Roscommon U-21 team who won the Hastings cup on Saturday last. The club wishes Roscommon the best of luck on Sunday against Meath.  ROSCOMMON GAELS  Ladies Football U-14 training on Saturday mornings at 11.45am sharp. The club annual social will take place in The Hyde Centre on Saturday 1 st March at 9pm. There will be a hot buffet on the night and music in the bar with Robbie Dwyer. Tickets are on sale at €25 Membership now due: Family €80, Single €60, Student €40. Please pay by March 1 st .  Senior and Junior football training will start on Friday night at Hyde Park at 8.30pm sharp. All senior and junior players are asked to attend please. The minor team suffered a one-point loss to St Ciarans in the county minor league last Sunday in Fuerty. Finals score St Ciarans 1-12 Roscommon Gaels 3-5.  Training continues on Wednesday and Friday nights at Hyde Park at 7pm. Indoor Hurling begins this evening Thursday at 5pm sharp in the Convent Gym for U-12. U-8s/U-10 Hurling continues on Friday for U-8s at 4-5pm. U-10s at 5-6pm. Boys and Girls. New players welcome. New helmets hopefully for sale this Friday. Coaching Course: Foundation Course in hurling/camogie takes place on Thursday at 7pm in Culleen Hall, Knockcroghery for the theory section and Saturday morning at 11am St Dominics pitch for the practical session. All interested parent, coaches and current players are encouraged to attend. ST BARRYS  St.Barry’s minors had a good draw against St. Dominics at the weekend. Final score St. Barry’s 1-6, St. Dominics 1-6. This was a good team performance. All players did well, but the efforts of Jordan, Cox, Cahill and Brennan were exceptionally good. We extend sympathy to Carmel Feeney, Scramogue on the recent death of her brother in law Michael O’Donnell, Moate. RIP. A coaching course has commenced at St. Barrys. St. Brigid’s 0-8 Padraig Pearses 0-3: After losing narrowly to Roscommon Gaels in the first round of the Minor League St. Brigid’s deservedly beat Padraig Pearses in Kiltoom on Sunday. Next game 24/02/08 away to Eire Óg.  Training Tuesday and Thursdays at 8pm. ST CROANS The large crowd in attendance at the Dinner Dance on Saturday night enjoyed the stories and wit of guest of honour GAA broadcaster, Micheál Ó Muircheartaigh. Mr Ó Muircheartaigh made presentations to the Minor double winning team of 2006 and Minor league winners, the Junior league winners and the ladies league runners-up of 2007. Many thanks go to all those who made the night a huge success. There was no rest for the wicked on Sunday when the minor management and team kicked off their league campaign against Michael Glaveys in Ballinlough. Croans were deserving winners on a score of 1-11 to 9 pts.  Next weekend the lotto will be promoted by Tommy Grogan and Benny O’ Connell in Ballintubber and by Pat Flynn and Ronan Collins in Ballymoe. Finally, the coaching seminar with Connacht Council director of coaching takes place tonight Thursday at 7pm in the Fr. Flanagan centre in Ballymoe. Please support.  ST DOMINICS Congratulations to the U-21 team on winning the Hastings Cup on Saturday last and to our own Mark Miley who played in goal. Registration Night for all underage and senior players will take place in Culleen Hall on Sunday next 17 th February from 6-7pm. All Registration must be paid prior to any Player/Member partaking in any Club activity. A Temporary Pitch Rota will operate for the next few weeks and then the full rota will commence. Our Minors started off their League campaign when they travelled to Termonbarry to play St Barrys on Sunday last which ended in a draw. Training takes place on Thursday at 7.30pm. U-12 Ladies Football presentation took place last Sunday. It was an enjoyable afternoon, special thanks to Cannon Lavin for attending U-14 training will Commence on Tuesday 19 th from 7.30- 8.30pm. ST FAITHLEACHS  O’Rourke Cup: Our first game takes place weekend of 8/9th March.  25 Card Drive: Every Tuesday 9pm sharp in the Club House. Membership: Annual Club Membership now due for 2008 payable to Tom Irwin before March 1st.  Mr & Mrs Show: We hope to have a great turn out for our Mr. & Mrs. Show, which takes place in the Club House Friday 15th February. 5 couples compete on the night. Also area Schools Quiz, details to follow.  Minor Team:  We played against Tulsk on Sunday last in Ballyleague and lost by 2 points. Minor Club Family Night & Presentation takes place in the Club House on 29th February. ST JOSEPHS  St. Joseph’s are holding a table quiz in Paddy Finn’s Pub, Kilteevan on Friday 29th February at 9pm. Tables of 4 are €€40 or €10 per person. All money raised will go towards the purchase of a defibrillator for Kilteevan community. Spot prizes and raffle on the night. Your support would be greatly appreciated.  A general club meeting takes place on Friday 15th February at 8pm sharp in the clubhouse. All club members and players please attend. Any outstanding membership of €30 of €15 for students should be given to club treasurer Alec Dempsey at this meeting. Training continues at 7pm on Saturday. Players are requested to attend, as the league will be starting shortly. Congratulations to Seán Gilleran who was part of the County U-21 team who won the Hastings cup on Saturday. ST MICHAELS After being ten points behind at one stage in the first half, St Michaels minors staged a comeback to defeat Western Gaels by 5-7 to 2-11 in their first minor league game at home on Sunday. The next game in the minor league is due to be fixed for next weekend – see fixtures for details. The club extends sympathy on their recent bereavement to the relatives of the late Christina Monaghan (nee Flanagan), Cootehall.  ST RONANS  The minor team was defeated in our first league game to Kilmore in Ballyfarnon Sunday last. Although disappointed management took a lot of positives from the game. Minor training continues on a Wednesday and Friday nights in Ballyfarnon at 8pm. U-14 indoor training continues on Friday at 7pm in Keadue hall. Training for U-10 & U-12 commences on Saturday 16th February at 11 am in Ballyfarnon. U-16 meeting and training session at 7.15pm on Thursday 14th February in Ballyfarnon.   Senior, U-21 and junior training on Tuesday the 19th at 8pm in Ballyfarnon.    Parents and players are reminded that club membership forms are to be filled in and returned to team managers no later than the end of February.   One-day first aid course in sports injuries will take place on Saturday 5th April in Keadue Hall. Indoor training session course in Tarmonbarry on Monday 18th February. Level 1 coaching course commencing in early March. Anybody who would like to get involved in setting up an U-14/U-16 girls football team or any of the above courses please contact minor club secretary Declan Noone for information at 071-9647284.   STROKESTOWN Junior and Senior training continues on Thursday at 8pm in the community centre and Saturday at 6pm in the football field. All players are asked to please attend. MINOR STROKESTOWN  Last weekend’s Minor match against Castlerea St. Kevins fell victim to the weather but Sunday’s match against Clann na nGael was played and was a most enjoyable game. The game ended in a draw that was a fair result in the end to a great tussle.  Please note that there is no indoor coaching for beginners on Saturday because of community games.  It resumes on Saturday week the 23 rd .   The AGM of the Minor Club takes place on Sunday evening at 6.30 pm. Anyone interested in under age football and especially parents are asked to attend.  TULSK Our Minor team got the year off to a good start beating St Faithleachs 2-5 to 1-6.  A great display by all players, and a fine effort in the last 10 minutes to seal the victory. Weight training on Friday from 8 – 9 pm. All team members are expected to attend. U-10 football training will start on Friday 22nd February in Tulsk from 7 – 8pm. They will be no Indoor Hurling or Camogie on Saturday 16th. A Hurling coaching course takes place in St Dominics on Friday at 7pm and Saturday at 11am. As many coaches as possible urged to attend. HURLING ATHLEAGUE  The Athleague annual draw will be held on Saturday night in Waldrons. Ticket sellers please note.  Hurling and Camogie Club Dinner Dance will be held in the Abbey Hotel on Friday 23rd Febuary. FOUR ROADS Last weekend saw our underage hurlers out for the first time this year in the Suck Valley League against Ballyhaunis. It proved to be a very successful weekend with all four teams recording wins. Well-done lads. Next weekend sees us away to Ballinasloe.  The hurler’s dinner dance is taking place Friday night in the Abbey Hotel, Roscommon. Please contact one of the committee members for tickets a.s.a.p. Also just a quick note on behalf of the hurling club, we would like to wish Joe Mannion a speedy recovery from a recent accident.  ORAN At the AGM of the Juvenile Hurling Club held in the Clubhouse Rockfield on Thursday night last a minute’s silence was observed in memory of the late Kieran Kelly a former club player and Padraic McHugh who died tragically last year. Chairman Andrew Fallon outlined the activities of the club last year while Secretary Gerry Keenan thanked everyone who helped out including team trainers, players and parents. An U-10 team was fielded for the first time in 2007 and the Secretary appealed for more help at this level. The club is considering organising indoor hurling for this age group and the help of a few more adults would make this possible.  While no silverware was won in 2007 all teams competed well.  Membership for the year was set at €10 and a registration day is being organised for 4pm on March 1 st for all underage players.  Officers elected: Chairman Andrew Fallon, Secretary Gerry Keenan, PRO Tommy Ryan, and Registrar Eric Keegan. Team Management – Minor: Francie Quine, Brian Flynn, U-15/U-16: Harry Crowley, Eric Keegan, Gerry Fallon, U-14: Andrew Fallon, Gerry Keenan, U-12: Gerry Keenan, John Casey.    On Saturday the Junior hurling team was defeated by Padraic Pearses at Woodmount. Oran was short a number of regulars. This team can still qualify for a place in the semi final if they win their next game.   There will be an U-21 match on Sunday next when Oran meet Roscommon Gaels in the first round of the championship.   CAMOGIE FOUR ROADS Registration for all girls interested in playing Camogie in 2008 will take place on Sunday 17 th February from 5 – 6pm in Tisrara Community Centre. Membership and insurance: U-12: €10, U-14 & 16: €20, student: €25, adult: €40. U-14, U- 16 and senior leagues commence shortly so it is important for players to register on the night. Four Roads Hurling and Camogie Dinner Dance is on Friday, February 15 th in the Abbey Hotel, Roscommon. Anyone interested in attending should contact committee members for tickets. Music on the night will be by Formula 1. Tickets are currently available from members of the camogie and football clubs. Tickets are €10 each or a book of 6 for €50. The draw will take place on Easter Monday, March 24 th in Tisrara Community Centre. Top prize is €1,000. Please support. LADIES FOOTBALL FOUR ROADS We would like to thank all parents and players for attending our registration night, which was very successful. Please note you have to be registered to play so please do so by contacting any committee members. The Ladies Football Club and Camoige Club, under the name Four Roads Ladies Development Draw, are holding a draw on Monday March 24 th to raise funds for the finance, maintenance and upkeep of the two clubs. Your support would be appreciated.  Strokestown  As a thank-you to all those who played for the Club in 2007 we are holding a Presentation Social in the Percy French Hotel on Saturday next, 16th February, at 9pm.  Music is by Padraig Farrell and light refreshments will be served (No late bar).  Our U-14 County Champions will be the recipients of a special presentation and the U12, U16, Minor and Junior players will also receive a presentation on the night.  All players, together with families, friends and supporters are invited to attend this, the first official social of Strokestown Ladies GAA.  U12 & U14 training continues in the Community Centre at 5pm every Saturday. All players are asked to bring 2 euro.  New Players are always welcome to attend.
