AFL Division 1 (O’Rourke Cup)
St. Croan’s continued their unbeaten run with a deserved win against Roscommon Gaels at Lisnamult. Croan’s trailed by 0-7 to 1-3 at half-time but turned in a very good second half display to prevail by two points.
Pádraig Pearses also continued their winning ways when they had four points to spare over a battling Elphin side. Leon Fehily and Emmett Egan were the goalscorers for Pearses.
Best performance of the weekend came from Clann na nGael who were the very impressive ten-point winners against Strokestown. Jamie Fahy scored 1-4 with Donie Shine contributing four points.
Kilmore scored an excellent win against Western Gaels, prevailing by a point. Kilmore goalkeeper Jason McEvoy saved a Derek Moran penalty and a Paul Garvey goal helped Kilmore to a narrow win.
AFL Division 2 (O’Gara Cup)
Castlerea St. Kevin’s pipped Western Gaels by three points to keep up their winning run, Ger Heneghan scoring 1-3 for Castlerea.
Performance of the day in this division came from Éire Óg, who had 15 points to spare against St. Dominic’s, scoring 4-15 in the process. Éire Óg led by 3-12 to 0-3 at half-time.
Boyle edged Oran by two points in a very competitive encounter at Rockfield to stay top of the table.
St. Faithleach’s opened their new stand at Ballyleague and celebrated with a hard fought one-point win against Michael Glavey’s with a last minute point from Ciaráin Murtagh winning the day.
AFL Division 3 (Tansey Cup)
St. Barry’s edged out Kilbride by a couple of points. Ballinameen and St. Aidan’s shared the spoils and Shannon Gaels proved too good for St. Michael’s.
With the championships just two weeks away, teams will be completing preparations and there will be much interest in this weekend’s games.
In Division One, high-flying St. Croan’s host Western Gaels while St. Brigid’s will be at home to Strokestown on Saturday evening. Roscommon Gaels badly need a win and they host Tulsk on Sunday in Lisnamult. There is a very interesting derby at Johnstown when Clann na nGael take on Pádraig Pearses and there is another derby in Kilmore when the home side take on Elphin.
In Division Two, St. Faithleach’s host St. Dominic’s at Ballyleague. Oran need a win and they will play Western Gaels at Rockfield. Éire Óg will take on Fuerty at home while there is another local derby at Ballinlough where Michael Glavey’s take on Castlerea St. Kevin’s. Boyle will host junior champions Creggs at Abbey Park. All Division Two games are on Sunday at 2 pm.
In the Tansey Cup on Saturday, Elphin host St. Michael’s, Ballinameen are at home to St. Barry’s while Kilbride face Clann na nGael at Kilbride. Then on Sunday, St. Ronan’s take on Shannon Gaels and St. Aidan’s play Kilglass Gaels.
