Clinical Tomas Seales it for Pearses

Roscommon SH Championship play-off Padraig Pearses                4-10 Oran                                   0-7 Padraig Pearses made no mistake of qualifying for the Roscommon SH semi-finals at the second attempt when they easily accounted for Oran in this one-sided play-off game played in Athleague last Sunday.   Pearses now play Roscommon Gaels in the county senior semi-final next Sunday while Oran have a second chance against Four Raods, also next Sunday. However they will have to improve greatly on this display if they are not to be heading for the championship exit door on Sunday evening.   It was hard to believe that these sides finished level last week because Pearses were in total control from the first minute and at half-time they led by 2-8 to 0-3.   Shane Sweeney was on target early on to set his team in motion and by the 18th minute they led by four points. However it was then that Pearses really began to open up. Tomas Seale pulled first time to the Oran net for his side’s first goal. Shane Sweeney continued his good form on the free-taking front to extend Pearses’ lead and two minutes before half-time Pearses grabbed their second goal when Anthony Sweeney pulled first time to help his side to a 2-8 to 0-3 half-time lead.   Things went from bad to worse for Oran early in the second half when they failed to properly clear a long ball and Seale was on hand again to shoot to the Oran net for Pearses’ third goal.   The sides exchanged points as the game headed for its inevitable conclusion and it was Seale who completed his hat-trick of goals for Pearses with ten minutes to go with another fine strike. Oran’s day of misery was completed when Gerry Fallon had a penalty saved in the final minute of normal time.
