Electric Ireland Connacht MFC: Roscommon 2-15 Leitrim 1-9
The Roscommon minor footballers have all but guaranteed themselves a place in the play-off stages of the Connacht Minor Championship following a very impressive win against Leitrim in Ballinamore on Friday night last. Dara Curran was the stand-out player for Roscommon, contributing 1-3.
The sides were well matched early on and Leitrim led by 0-4 to 0-3 after just ten minutes, but Roscommon got their attacking game going after that, scoring five points without reply to lead by four after 19 minutes, with Dara Curran scoring three for James Duignan’s side.
In the 23rd minute Cathal Enright finished a fine move to the Leitrim net and Roscommon were now ahead by 1-9 to 0-5. However, a goal and a point from the hosts before the break saw Roscommon go in at half-time leading by just three, 1-9 to 1-6.
The sides exchanged points in the opening minutes of the second half before Roscommon took over, adding some excellent scores.
Stephen Tighe, Dara Curran and Sean McDonnell were all on target and the clinching goal for Roscommon arrived in the 54th minute when Curran finished a superb team move.
Roscommon play Sligo in their final group game in Dr Hyde Park this coming Friday night and their wins against Galway and Leitrim have put them in with every chance of contesting a Connacht final.
