Christmas Shoebox Appeal launch

Following on from the success of last year’s Team Hope Christmas Shoebox Appeal, which saw donations in Roscommon increase by 65% to a whopping 6,000 shoeboxes, this year’s appeal will be officially launched at Hannon’s Hotel on Saturday, October 14th.

The launch will take place between 9 am and midday and will provide Roscommon coordinator Emma Clapison and her team with an opportunity to provide information on all things Christmas Shoebox. It also allows Team Hope to say a huge thank you to all those who continue to support this worthy cause each year.

Roscommon Rose Derdre Cribbin is the county’s shoebox appeal ambassador and she’s delighted to be involved in this year’s event.

“This is a fantastic charity, providing hope and happiness to those who need it most at Christmas time. I am particularly proud of the work that goes on behind the scenes in Roscommon. Not only do I want to support the work of Team Hope, but I also want to acknowledge and celebrate the wonderful volunteers we have in Roscommon who work tirelessly to provide children in Eastern Europe and Africa with these boxes of joy and hope each Christmas.

“I would also like to appeal to students in our local primary and secondary schools to get involved. I remember the excitement and sense of achievement when I created shoeboxes as a student in Castlerea Community School. My friends and I came together to take part in this and it is certainly something we will never forget.”

Team Hope Ireland will be there on the day to talk about the Christmas Shoebox Appeal and wider international work. The Roscommon Volunteer Information Service will also be in attendance and there will also be an ideas exchange table for schools wishing to get new ideas on implementing the Christmas Shoebox Appeal this year.

There will also be a stall dedicated to knitting ideas while music will be provided by Roscommon Solstice Choir.

Anyone wishing to attend must register, as guests will not be admitted on the day if not on the guest list. Contact Emma Clapison, Coordinator on 087-3179370, roscommonshoeboxappeal@outlook.com or the Team Hope Roscommon Christmas Shoebox Appeal Facebook page.
