In a statement to the Roscommon People this week, the committee thanked those involved for helping to spread some much-needed Christmas cheer.
“The Christmas Market Committee of Strokestown Town Team welcomed a large crowd over three nights last weekend starting with the switching on of our Christmas lights on Friday night last.
“Our hard-working volunteers and those who attending the event helped to spread some festive cheer after what has been a long and difficult year. We can now face into 2022 with renewed hope in our hearts.
“Strokestown experienced a weekend full of entertainment including an amazing line-up of local bands and musicians as well as on-street entertainers. We also had our carnival carousel, and a fantastic display from the local emergency services as well as two touching outdoor Christmas movies.
“We were delighted to welcome a vast array of vendors from both near and far as well as transition year students from Scoil Mhuire who hosted their own market village, selling everything from baked goods, Christmas decorations, and jewellery.
“None of this could have happened of course without the help and assistance of the many residents and business owners on Bawn Street. We would like to offer a huge thank you to them for their continued support and cooperation, without which it would not be possible to bring this event to the community.
“The Strokestown Town Team committee recognizes now more than ever in these challenging times that community matters.
“We would also like to acknowledge Roscommon County Council and the Department of Tourism for funding which helped the Town Team to host this fantastic event.
“Thank you also to Strokestown GAA, the local Women’s Shed, Strokestown Community Centre and Roscommon Sports and Classic Car Club for the use of their equipment”.
The committee also acknowledged the Strokestown Lights committee, which it said, had “worked through wind and rain” to help prepare the town for last weekend’s event.
“Due to the community’s generosity, we have been able to add to the lights this year, further enhancing the wonderful Christmas show,” the committee added.
“Finally, a huge thank you to the many volunteers who gave up their free time to help set up the marquee, chalets, gazebos, and our Christmas tree.
“Please stay and shop local this year and support the many wonderful businesses and services on our doorstep”.
