Childcare funding welcomed

Minister Denis Naughten has confirmed that up to 70 pre-school childcare providers across Roscommon-Galway have received significant funding to improve facilities and services.

“More than €783,000 has been provided by Government to 70 pre-school providers across Roscommon-Galway. The money is available to draw down immediately and will ensure building and maintenance works and outdoor play areas are improved and enhanced for the benefit of children, staff and parents. New childcare places will also be created under this allocation,” stated Minister Naughten.

“This funding will also provide a boost for local construction jobs as providers are set to undergo building and maintenance works over the coming weeks.

“The total level of funding for pre-school providers nationwide is €8.4million and is being allocated through the Department of Children and Youth Affairs to 683 providers. Under the leadership of my Independent Cabinet colleague, Minister for Children Katherine Zappone, this amount has been doubled since March 2017.

“This funding will benefit children, families and providers and will contribute to the development of infrastructure that is ready to meet the new approach to subsidising childcare outlined in Budget 2017 by the Government,” concluded Minister Naughten.

Senator Frank Feighan also welcomed the funding.
