Well-known pharmacist Charlie O’Brien is celebrating 30 years in business in Roscommon with a gala Charity Fashion Show in the Abbey Hotel this Sunday.
This week Charlie reflected on his three decades in business in Roscommon town.
A native of Athlone, Charlie’s first premises was a landmark building on the corner of Lanesboro Street and Castle Street.
“I purchased Paddy Guerin’s pharmacy from Paddy’s widow, Peggy” Charlie recalls of that first venture into Roscommon. That was in November of 1987.
O’Brien’s Pharmacy was up and running and would continue at that location for over twenty years. A new chapter in the success story began with an approach to Charlie by the HSE a number of years ago. The proposal was that a Primary Care Centre be established in Roscommon.
The project went ahead and the Primary Care Centre is now primely located at Golf Links Road, Roscommon. O’Brien’s Pharmacy, now RosMed Pharmacy, has been located there since July 2011, and continues to go from strength to strength.
Indeed RosMed Pharmacy now employs ten people and has an ever-growing customer base.
Complimenting the state-of-the-art pharmacy is the Lilac Rooms’ Beauty & Skincare Clinic, which features a range of beauty and skincare services and uses only the best products on the market.
A visit to RosMed Pharmacy is always a pleasure and the ever-friendly Charlie and his excellent staff provide professional expertise, always delivered with a smile and with the interests of their customers uppermost in their minds.
Over the years, Charlie and RosMed Pharmacy have supported numerous local causes, both through sponsorship and Charlie’s direct involvement in community organisations and projects.
Now, as he celebrates 30 years in business here, Charlie is quick to pay credit to his loyal work colleagues. And he has always been deeply touched by the great welcome and support he received in Roscommon from the very beginning.
“I really appreciate how lucky I was to come to Roscommon” says Charlie. “We’ve enjoyed terrific growth in the business in recent years. The people of Roscommon have been very, very loyal to me and I want to sincerely thank them for their great support over the past thirty years.”
