Celebrations at Xpress Fitness in Ballygar

Xpress Fitness in Ballygar is now under new management, as Sinead Gannon, who has managed the facility since it opened a year and a half ago, has now taken over the lease on the popular facility and is currently preparing for the official opening on February 1st. The mince pies may be a distant memory, but they may have made their presence felt on your waistline and now is the time to make the most of all those new years resolutions and get fitter and healthier for 2008.a The service on offer at Xpress Fitness differs considerably from most other fitness facilities, being more personal and tailored to individual needs. Motivation is also a key element in the success enjoyed by members at Xpress Fitness and Sinead Gannon specialises in personal training for clients.  The gym has been operating upstairs at the local community centre, just off the Market Square in Ballygar, for the past year and a half. Sinead was the Manager from the start, but has now taken over the lease on the facility. A native of Cloverhill, she now lives in Mote Park with her husband Francis Carr, who is a director of the company involved. Her experience in the business is vast. She started in the industry five and a half years ago, at Coral Leisure in Roscommon. She spent four years there as gym manager, before going on to Leisureland where she worked on a new gym which opened at that facility. Indeed, she continues to work in Leisureland on a consultancy basis. Prior to starting work, she gained NCEF qualifications through the University of Limerick, completing levels one to three, which also qualifies Sinead as a tutor.  The Ballygar facility is open Monday to Friday, 8.30 am to 10 pm and Saturday 9 am to 2 pm. It features top-quality equipment, including treadmills, cross trainers, rowers, weights, both resistance and free weights, and stability balls.  There is a big emphasis on classes at Xpress fitness and members can take part in any of the range of six or seven classes on offer each week. For example, there’s kick boxing, or an aerobics class on Mondays at 7 pm. ‘The most popular class is the tummy buster class on Tuesday nights at 8 pm,’ said Sinead. All classes are free to members and classes also take place on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings at 10 am. Sinead and the team at Xpress Fitness also specialise in training teams outside normal gym opening hours.  Sinead is also a qualified tutor for the Irish Sports Council and does a sports programme for teenagers, which costs €80 per year. It concentrates on fitness and healthy eating, steering clear of weights and aims to improve all round fitness for teenagers.  Privacy and a very good atmosphere are other advantages of Xpress Fitness and the social side of the club is catered for with social gatherings and coffee mornings.  The official opening of Xpress Fitness takes place on Friday, 1st February. The event gets underway with an open day from 12 noon where all are welcome to come along and view the facilities on offer. There will be free fitness assessments, blood pressure checks, body mass index checks for all in attendance. At 7.30 the official opening will take place, with some local sports stars present. Refreshments will also be served throughout the day and the official opening will be followed by a party night in Tierney’s. To mark the official opening, there is a special offer on membership from February 1st to 8th, with €100 off all membership. Single membership, which is usually €299, is €200. The price for a couple will be €300, down €100 from the usual price of €400, while the cost for a family will be €500, as opposed to the usual price of €600.
