The number of cattle slaughtered in December 2007 was 3.4 percent lower than in December 2006. A comparison of December 2007 and 2006 figures shows that sheep slaughterings decreased by 11.5 percent, pig slaughterings decreased by 7.1 percent. The number of cattle slaughterings in 2007 was 0.1 percent lower than the corresponding 2006 figure. Over the same period there was a decrease of 6.3 percent in sheep slaughterings and a decrease of 1.6% in pig slaughterings. Between the periods January to September 2006 and 2007, United Kingdom, France and Greece recorded decreases in sheep slaughterings of 5.4 percent, 3.5 percent and 3.4 percent respectively. Spain recorded an increase of 3.2 percent.
