Castlerea St. Kevins GAA Club Golf Classic launched

Castlerea St. Kevin’s are holding a Golf Classic at Castlerea Golf club on Saturday 28 th July 2007. This is the first major fundraiser for the development of a second pitch for training and underage games. Presently the club cater for seventeen different teams, between adult football, underage football, hurling and ladies football, so it is imperative that extra ground be acquired to take the pressure off the main field.    The club have reached agreement with the Town Trust for a portion of land in the Demesne alongside the existing pitch and it is hoped that all the legalities will be completed in the next couple of weeks which will enable work to start on the project.    On Thursday night last at the launch of the Golf Classic plans for the development were on display and all present were impressed at evidence of how project will look on completion. As well as developing the ground in keeping with the parkland effect of the demesne there are also plans in place to build a new stand and an extra set of dressing rooms and to floodlight the main pitch.   The Golf Classic takes place at Castlerea Golf club on Saturday 28 th July and Golf Club Captain Sean O’Connell, a former player with Castlerea St. Kevin’s, was present and vowed to give the club all the help he could to ensure its success.    The format for the Classic will be: teams of three; entry fee will be €150 which will include a meal; the scoring format will be decided later; a timesheet will be in operation and entries may be given to any member of the committee but tee times must be booked with Eamon Campion at 086-3644149.    The main sponsor of the event is Clarecon Construction and their managing director Henry Haverty was present at the launch on Thursday night. They are presently in the process of erecting some new-style Eco Friendly houses at Knockroe.     Castlerea St. Kevins now have a sub committee in place that will be seeking sponsorship for tees and greens from business people in the town and surrounding areas. All involved are confident this will be a major success and will start a development fund which will eventually lead to O’Rourke Park being one of the top G.A.A. venues in the county.
