Castlerea Show returns Bank Holiday Monday!

August Bank Holiday Monday (6th) is a defining date in the 2018 edition of the County Roscommon events calendar. The day marks the welcome return of the Castlerea Agricultural Trade and Craft Show following a twelve-month absence. This highly regarded event signals the beginning of show season in the county and has been in operation since 1985.

The Castlerea Show is organised in conjunction with Castlerea Livestock Mart, which also acts as its host venue.

With classes for cows, calves and bull and heifer weanlings, as well as classes for sheep, goats and pigs and horse and pony classes, the organisers have not surprisingly been busy processing entries.

This year also sees classes under ‘Pets Corner’ as well as adult and junior art, amateur photography, country crafts, floral classes, and non-edible farm produce – so get collecting that turf!

Those wishing to submit entries to this year’s show are asked to complete the official Castlerea Show forms, which are available from show secretary, Cathy O’Flanagan, Knockroe, Castlerea on 083-8828018 or from the Show office located at Castlerea Mart.

The gates at the Castlerea Agriculture Trade and Craft Show will open at 8 am on Monday, August 6th, with the official opening by Dr. Winifred Kelly Henry taking place at 11 am.

Judging of cattle and horse classes as well as home produce classes begins at 11.30 am, while sheep classes are judged at 12 noon and dogs at 12.30 pm.
