Castlerea: Looking forward to a busy Christmas and bright New Year!

Castlerea is shining brightly once again this year with the town’s Christmas Lights switched on at a virtual event on Friday last (3rd) and local businesses preparing for a busy festive period.

Indeed, the town has been a hive of activity in recent months and local Councillor, Paschal Fitzmaurice, believes more good things are in store in 2022.

“We would be encouraging people to support local shops again this Christmas and there is already a positive vibe in the town with the regeneration of buildings and the lease and sale of formerly derelict buildings which means they are now occupied,” he said.

“The town is busy with the local mart and businesses and I’d encourage shoppers to support the businesses on Main Street as they are the life and soul of Castlerea and first to support local groups”.

There are two exciting projects in development for the town including the redevelopment of the green space at Somers Park and extra funding for the extremely successful outdoor swimming pool.

“The development at Somers Park will feature an outdoor entertainment area and arts space and will allow outdoor theatre and concerts with a permanent dome,” Cllr. Fitzmaurice added.

“I was also delighted to secure additional funding from Roscommon County Council for Castlerea Swimming Pool which was a huge success last year with record crowds.

“These are two major projects which is quite positive for the local community and both will progress rapidly in the coming months,” he said.

“Castlerea is a great town for families and children to visit with the 600-acre park, the swimming pool during the summer and our fairy village. There is a great buzz around the town right now and we look forward to a busy Christmas and an exciting New Year,” he concluded.
