By Paul Healy Negotiations aimed at locating a major Industrial & Commercial Park on 10 acres of lands at the Demesne, Castlerea are at an advanced stage, the Roscommon People can reveal this week. The People understands that Castlerea Town Trust, Roscommon County Council and other interested parties have been in discussion for some time about a project that could represent a massive boost to the commercial future of the town. Roscommon County Council is understood to have agreed in principle to provide the services which will be required to facilitate the development. The lands in question are owned in trust by Castlerea Town Trust. The proposed Industrial & Business Park will be located on about 10 acres of Demesne land close to a site already chosen for an Enterprise Centre. This week local Fianna Fail politicians are hailing the initiative as a major economic breakthrough for Castlerea. Deputy Michael Finneran said that the plans for the Park represented a ‘major boost’ for Castlerea. Castlerea is ‘very much on the move’ he added, and the mooted plan represented a great opportunity for the town. Fianna Fail Cllr. Tony Waldron said that he had been working on the initiative for about two years. It was his understanding that the local authority would fully support servicing the lands for provision of commercial units. Full story on page four.
