Castlerea book place in Challenge Cup Final

Roscommon & District League round-up Cup holders Castlerea Celtic are through to the Final of the G&H Sponsored Roscommon & District league Challenge Cup. They had a hard-earned 2-1 victory over the Division 1 champions Ballymoe F.C at Ballinlough on Sunday    Ronan Curran broke the deadlock to give Castlerea Celtic a 1-0 lead after thirty-eight minutes of play. He scored from the penalty spot after Jimmie Mannion was fouled in the Ballymoe penalty area. With fifty minutes played Ronan Curran added his second for the Premier Division side when he beat the offside trap and chipped the advancing keeper. Despite the absence of Gerard McDonald and Joe Healy through injury — Ballymoe had no intentions of giving up and Gerry Lynch drilled the ball to the Castlerea Celtic net with fifty-five minutes played. Both teams had chances to score before the end but Castlerea Celtic used all their experience to hold on for a win and a place in the final.  The second Simi-Final featuring Ballinasloe Town and Heatmerchants was postponed due to bereavement. Heatmerchants will play Ballinasloe Town in the Premier Division Cup final as a result of a Penalty shoot out win over Kilkerrin Utd. at Kilkerrin on Friday evening. Kilkerrin went into a 2 – 0 lead thanks to David Fahy and Keith Mahon. Heatmerchants levelled the game with goals from Sergio and Colm Hyland and then won the penalty shoot out on a 3 – 2 score line. Division 2 side St. Johns Athletic beat Laurencetown Utd. in a promotion play off game at Taughmaconnell and they will now play in Division 1 next season. In an entertaining game both teams failed to find the net during normal time or extra-time and St. Johns Athletic won 5-4 following a penalty shoot out. In the Division 1 Cup quarter-finals Cam Celtic beat Shiven Rvs. 2-1 earlier in the week but were then beaten 5-2 away to Ballinagare in the semi-finals. John Moran and Eamon Ryan score two each and Mark Drury added the fifth for Ballinagare Dysart beat Baylough Rovers 2-1 in the other semi- final and they face Ballinagare in the final. Brendan Mannion for Dysart forced the game into extra-time and Andy Higgins got the winner in the first period of extra time. Ericsson F.C are through to the Division 2 Cup final and a meeting with Manor Utd. They beat Moore Utd. 3-2 at Moore. Their leading goal scorer Des Boyle struck twice and Aidan Troy added a third for the winners. In the Division 3 Cup Quarter-Finals played on Friday Cloonfad Utd beat Glen Celtic 2-1 at Glenamaddy. John Connelly scored both goals for the winners and Thomas Killackey replied for the losers. Loughglynn Utd. beat Division 3 Champions Lisnamult Celtic 1-0 at Roscommon. Daniel Morris got the all-important goal.  Rahara Rvs. beat Cam Celtic 2-1 at Rahara. Lorcan Dowd and Romario scored for Rahara and Declan Lynch replied for Cam Celtic. Ballymoe F.C beat Erricsson 5-4 on penalties after their game finished level at 2-2 after extra-time. John Mulhall and John Rohan scored for Ericsson F.C.  Loughglynn Utd. beat Cloonfad Utd. in the semi- finals of the Division 3 Cup played on Sunday. Joe O’Flanagan in the first half and Mark O’Brien in the second half scored their goals.  Loughglynn Utd. will play Ballymoe F.C in the final after they beat Rahara Rvs. 2-0 in the other semi- final. Shane Connelly and James Connaughton scored their goals. The Division 2 game between Manor Utd and Ericsson F.C was postponed due to a bereavement.   In the Masters League Glen Celtic beat Shiven Rvs. 4-1 at Glenamaddy. Liam Quinn scored two and Gerry Hynes and John Mularkey added one each for the Glenamaddy side. Skyvalley Rvs. beat Baylough Rvs. 2-0 in the remaining game.  The Game between Rahara Rvs. and Castlerea Celtic was abandoned when a player was injured.
