The Castlecoote Tidy Towns Annual Duck Race took place on Sunday, September 10th, in glorious sunshine, and was a great success.
The committee wishes to thank everyone who bought a duck, as without the community’s support, this event would not go ahead. Thanks also to all who came on board on the day to help with sorting and transporting ducks, and delivering furniture to the river for the event. Thanks also to Joachim Dunne for supplying the microphone, and to Castlecoote Stores for sponsoring all the food, plus tea/coffee and ice cream.
Thanks as well to Oscar Neilan, Anne and staff; Oscar also supplied a van for the convenience of the committee and this was very much appreciated. Thanks to Orla and Amy for doing the face-painting and keeping all the children happy. The Sub Aqua team was also a great help on the day, and they enjoyed being in the river catching all the ducks as they floated by, so a big thank you to the crew.
Thanks also to all involved in the Tidy Towns crew for overseeing the event and keeping the children safe from the river, and also all the parents who looked out for all.
After the duck race, music was provided by the very talented Kenneth McCormack in PJ’s Bar & Lounge, sponsored by PJ and Bernie.
The winners of the duck race were as follows: first prize (€100) went to Kathleen McMahon, second prize (€50) went to Linda Kelly, third prize (€25) went to Darragh Mullen, and the prize for ‘Last duck home’ went to Allen Hanlon. Prizes were sponsored by Castlecoote Stores.
