The Midland & Western Livestock Improvement Society Shows and Sales, taking place on Saturday, April 4th and Saturday, April 11th at The Showgrounds, Carrick-on-Shannon (N41 YX82), will mark the Society’s 100th year in existence.
On April 4th, there will be 106 Angus bulls on show and for sale, along with 10 heifers, six Hereford bulls and one heifer, and seven Shorthorn bulls and 11 heifers.
The Society is honoured to have received recognition from the Royal Dublin Society for its 100 years of service to pedigree breeding. RDS medals will be presented on April 4th to the Champion Angus Heifer, Champion Hereford Bull, and Champion Shorthorn Bull.
The Society itself will also present special medals on the day to the Champion Angus Bull, Champion Hereford Heifer, and Champion Shorthorn Heifer.
The Show and Sale on Saturday, April 11th will comprise Charolais and Limousin bulls and heifers. Special medals will be presented to the champions by the Crowe family, Carrick-on-Shannon, in memory of Tom Crowe (RIP), who served as the Society’s veterinary surgeon for many years.
The Society is also delighted that restrictions on exporting to Northern Ireland have been lifted, and hopes to welcome its many Northern Ireland buyers back to Carrick-on-Shannon on April 4th and 11th.
The Society has also finalised the dates for the Carrick Winter Fair 2026. Monday, November 16th is set for Senior Cattle and Bull Weanlings (Show and Sale), while Sunday, November 22nd will host the show, followed by the sale of all Heifer Weanlings on Monday, November 23rd.
