Can Brigid’s be Tuam Stars?

It’s another big weekend on the GAA scene locally with St. Brigids, the county football champions, and Athleague, the county hurling champions, both in Connacht club action.    St. Brigids put their Connacht crown on the line when they take on Galway champions Killererin in the Connacht semi-final in a match which will be played in Tuam Stadium on Sunday (2 pm). See our match preview on page 53.   Meanwhile Athleague’s rollercoaster season continues when they face yet another replay this weekend (Saturday in Athleague, 2.30 start) following their drawn Connacht Senior Club Hurling semi-final against Ballina last weekend.    Unfortunately Athleague are in the midst of an injury crisis. Mervyn Connaughton will miss the match, Colm Moran is also understood to be definitely out and Joe Fallon is also unavailable while Alan Cunniffe will be on holidays. However Declan McGeeney will be back.    The injuries are a setback to a team which has enjoyed a great season but The People still takes Athleague to account for Ballina in this replay.
