Brilliant Rossies tame Tyrone

Roscommon scored one of their most famous championship wins in the modern era when they went to Healy Park in Omagh and defeated Tyrone by 0-14 to 0-12. The foundations for this famous win were laid in the first half when they dominated the home side.

With Donie Smith, Daire Cregg and Diarmuid Murtagh on fire, Roscommon laid siege to the Tyrone goal and scored some marvellous points and by half-time they led by 0-9 to 0-3.

Tyrone were far more energetic in the second half and inspired by Darragh Canavan they mounted a spirited comeback. However any time they came close to Roscommon Davy Burke’s men were able to respond and Daire Cregg kicked the clinching point with two minutes to go.

Roscommon will now play one of Kerry, Armagh or Donegal in an All-Ireland quarter-final this coming weekend.
