The highlight of round two of the O’Rourke Cup (AFL Division One) last week was the high scoring clash between St. Brigid’s (4-10) and Clann na nGael (2-13), which saw Brigid’s come out on top by three points. Senan Kilbride scored 2-4 for the Kiltoom men.
Elsewhere, Fuerty scored an excellent four point win against Roscommon Gaels at Lisnamult which means that the Gaels have lost their opening two league games. Boyle edged out St. Croan’s although Croan’s missed a late penalty which proved costly. Pádraig Pearses have started the season well and they were eight point winners against St. Faithleach’s with Huberth Darcy scoring two goals for Pearses. Michael Glavey’s pipped Western Gaels by two points.
In the O’Gara Cup (AFL Division Two), Strokestown scored five goals in a twelve point win against neighbours Elphin. Best win of the day in Division Two surely goes to Kilmore who outscored Castlerea by five points.
This week sees round three of the football leagues take place. Roscommon Gaels need the points as they travel to Boyle in the O’Rourke Cup. Champions Clann na nGael entertain Fuerty on Friday night. High-flying St. Brigid’s travel to Ballinlough to take on Michael Glavey’s while Pádraig Pearses will be in Ballintubber to take on St. Croan’s and St. Faithleach’s will entertain Western Gaels in Ballyleague.
The pick of the games in Division Two looks to be the meeting of Tulsk and Kilmore on Saturday evening. (See fixture list for full details)
