Brideswell Pattern Festival this weekend

Brideswell Pattern Festival takes place on the last weekend every July and this year’s festival will take place between Friday, 28th of July and Sunday, 30th of July and will mark Brideswell Annual Pattern’s 60th year since its revival in 1957.

Right through from Friday to Sunday we have an action-packed schedule of events that once again will leave everyone with fond memories of their visit to the heartland of South Roscommon.

On Friday, 28th of July, we have the village gathering followed by the cube with MC Frank Forde. The country BBQ will be served by new local business GFG Catering. This is followed by a special Stensons and Stilettos night in the festival marquee – Line Dancing followed by live band ‘The Buckleys’ aka ‘The Groomsmen’. Tickets are €15 for adults, €7.50 for kids and €40 for a family of four and they can be purchased on the door.

One of the major highlights of the summer events calendar will take place right here in South Roscommon in the form of the Brideswell Pattern Festival Charity Cycle. This event will take place on Saturday, 29th of July starting with registration at 7.30 am and is being organised in conjunction with Brideswell Pattern Festival.

For those of you wondering exactly what this entails it is a brand new charity cycle challenge that will push you to the limit. There are three distances, 120km, 50km and 9km family cycle, in support of Cancer Care West.

A walk in association with the local defibrillator group starts at 3 pm from the Festival marquee. At 3 pm we will have a GAA blitz for the local U-8 and U-10 girls teams, followed by refreshments and in the marquee. This will be followed by dancing in the Festival Marquee to Ireland’s iconic country sensation Declan Nerney and his band. Shane Moore and Seamus Moore will perform from 10 pm as a support act so come early to get a good seat. Tickets can be purchased from the door and we are open at 9 pm. Tickets are €15.

Sunday, 26th of July will also play host to an action-packed schedule of events starting with the Annual Pattern Mass at 12 noon in the village followed by a cake sale in aid of Brideswell National School and Wheel of Fortune. There will also be children’s workshops, entertainment and amusements, and traditional stations and don’t forget at 2.30 pm we will have the inaugural Soap Box Run and the Kids Tractor Run. Due to Roscommon playing in Croke Park, The Gerry O’Malley Memorial Raffle will now take place on Pattern Sunday evening at 9 pm sharp.

On Pattern Sunday night Brideswell Pattern Festival committee have organised a special night with Derek Ryan and his band with The Cowboy Roadshow as a support act. Doors open at 9.30 pm and we will be dancing from 10 pm. Tickets are only €20 and can be purchased on the door.

Outside of the festivities one can relax in the two pubs (O’Connell’s and Hamrock’s) with music in both.
