Éire Óg outgun Kilbride!
Éire Óg ran out 5-13 to 4-9 winners over Kilbride in last Sunday’s 13-a-side U-20 Division Three Final at O’Rourke Park.
Goals from Eoghan Walsh and Ciaran Walsh helped the Loughglynn side into a 2-4 to 0-0 lead by the end of the first quarter. Dan O’Neill responded with a Kilbride goal in the 17th minute and at half-time Éire Óg led 2-6 to 1-3.
When O’Neill scored a goal early in the second half it looked like a Kilbride comeback might be on, but Éire Óg hit back with two goals to kill the game as a contest. Enda Crawley scored one and Liam Creaton the other to scupper Kilbride’s chances.
Conor Shanagher’s goal kept Kilbride in touch but Éire Óg were always able to get vital scores. Dan O’Neill did narrow the gap to four with his third goal late on but Ciaran Lavin converted a late penalty to seal Éire Óg’s victory.

Senior preparations continue
The Roscommon senior footballer’s preparations for the new season continue this week when they play Offaly in a senior challenge on Sunday. The game has not yet been fixed but will go ahead at 12 noon. The following Saturday Roscommon play Donegal in Kilglass and will then face Westmeath in Kiltoom on Tuesday, 19th at 7.30 pm. The FBD League kicks off on January 3rd against Leitrim at 8 pm in Cloone.
Annual Convention next Monday
The annual Roscommon GAA convention will be held in The Abbey Hotel next Monday night (11th) at 7.30 pm. There may be a contest for Treasurer as two names remained in the hat at the time of going to press namely Seamus Maher and David O’Connor, however it is this newspaper’s information that Seamus Maher will step down leaving David O’Connor to take over the tough job of managing the finances of the County Board. No reports or motions were available at the time of going to press either.
Referee recruitment drive!
Roscommon GAA in conjunction with the Referees’ Committee are in the process of recruiting new referees.
Referees are an important and vital factor within the GAA structures and in Roscommon despite numerous campaigns to recruit referees, numbers have dropped over the past number of years due to retirement and injury.
Unfortunately, there are quite a number of clubs within the county with no representation on the referee panel.
Without referees there can be no game and this would mean 30 plus players at a time unable to play.
All clubs are advised that they must furnish the referees’ committee with at least one person from their club who wishes to take up refereeing.
A referees’ course will commence mid-January 2018 and names should be with the referee administrator, Haulie Beirne (086-8293845) before January 10th.a
