Boyle to host Terry Fox Run this Sunday

The annual Terry Fox Run will return to Boyle this Sunday, October 4, with participants of all ages and abilities invited to take part.

The 5.4km run and walk will leave St Joseph’s Hall at 2 pm and organisers are encouraging families and members of the wider community to participate.

The Boyle event has raised funds for cancer research over a number of years and forms part of the international movement inspired by Canadian athlete and cancer campaigner Terry Fox.

Fox began his famous Marathon of Hope across Canada in 1980 after losing a leg to cancer, with the aim of raising funds and awareness for cancer research.

Organisers of the Boyle event say participants are welcome to dress up, while people who already have Terry Fox T-shirts are encouraged to wear them.

A limited number of “Finish It” T-shirts will also be available on the day and refreshments will be served afterwards.

Pupils from Abbey Primary School will have sponsorship cards in circulation locally in advance of the event.

Donations can also be made through the event’s online fundraising page.

The international Terry Fox organisation lists Boyle among its official international runs taking place on October 4.
