Boyle man wins annual Pike Angling Festival

Boyle man, Jim Clarke, was the overall winner of the annual Boyle & District Angling Club Pike Festival which took place last weekend on Lough Key.

  Jim received a cheque for €1,500 and the Moonstone Jewellers Perpetual Trophy and winner’s jacket following catches of 18lbs 14oz and 19lbs 11oz respectively on Saturday and Sunday.

  The overall winner was selected on the combined catch weight over both days.

  120 anglers took part in the popular festival with the Pool Prize of €200 won by Paddy Sharkey with a fish weighing 21lbs 3oz.

  Marek Sekula took first place on Saturday with a catch of 18lbs 7oz while Martin Palmer (18lbs 6oz) and Patrick Moran (16lbs 4oz) were second and third respectively.

  The five winners of €100 each on Saturday were: Sean Kelly (14lbs 4 oz); Emmett Galvin (15lbs); Keith Gleeson (15lbs 8oz); Stephen Turner (15lbs 8oz); Terry Brennan (16lbs 4 oz).

  The action continued on Sunday with Paddy Sharkey (21lbs 3oz) taking first place and Krzystof Sibiga (19lbs 12oz) and Jarek Sekula (14lbs 10oz) second and third respectively.

  The winners of the €100 prizes on Sunday were Brendan Sharkey (11lbs 2oz); Kevin Conway (11lbs 10oz); Rafael Pelc (13lbs 4 oz); Joe McDermott (14lbs); Patrick Grant (14lbs 7oz).

  The event, which had been cancelled in the previous two years due to Covid-19, was organised in conjunction with Roscommon County Council’s Tourism, Festival and Event Scheme 2022.
