Boyle man to the fore in symbolic New York Parade

Boyle native Hilary Beirne was to the fore as a small group of New York Parade committee members preserved the great tradition of St. Patrick’s Day Parades in New York last week.

In the early hours of St. Patrick’s Day, a group of approximately 10 parade committee members (observing social distancing in response to the Covid-19 outbreak) proudly marched with a small escort from the ‘Fighting 69th’ Regiment of New York, led by Regimental Piper Joe Brady.

The group marched from 26th Street to St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Manhattan to preserve the proud 259-year tradition of the NYC St. Patrick’s Day Parade (taking place on the streets of New York City every year since 1762).

Leading this symbolic New York City St. Patrick’s Day event with the Parade’s banner were Malachy McAllister (Co. Tyrone), Sean Lane (Co. Galway) and Hilary Beirne, native of Boyle, Co. Roscommon.
