Fresh from clinching their place in the Aviva FAI Junior Cup Semi-Final, Boyle Celtic have now beaten Ed Sheeran in the iTunes download chart!
The new song called ‘The Boyle Celtic Song’ reached number one in the chart for a time, ahead of Sheeran’s version of ‘Galway Girl’.
The song, which was recorded in Paul Gurney’s studio in Longford, was written by Dónal O’Connor and features the vocal talents of Kevin Hickey.
Dónal, who’s a keen supporter of Boyle Celtic, says it was a real team effort.
“We were coming back from the quarter-final in Carrick-on-Suir and Sabrina Kiernan said: ‘Dónal you write songs, write a song about Boyle Celtic!’
“I put the success of the song down to the fantastic vocals from Kevin Hickey. He does a great job. Also, himself and Eddie Conroy deserve great credit for promoting it” Dónal said.
Dónal and Kevin also received great assistance from other supporters on the Boyle Celtic bus that day, as the singer song-writer explains: “The girls were all singing on the bus and they sang backing vocals on the track too!”
The backing singers include a who’s who of Boyle Celtic supporters and club members: Aaron O’Connor, Monica McDermott, Lisa McDermott, Christopher O’Connor, Sabrina Kiernan, Michelle McKillen, Michelle Corrigan, Senator Frank Feighan (that’s right), Brendan Gaffney and Mandy O’Connor (Donal’s wife).
‘The Boyle Celtic Song’ can be purchased and downloaded from iTunes now!
