Sixteen heifers bound for Romania were given a rousing send-off recently. The heifers were donated by local farmers as part of a Bóthar project and will go to poor farming families in Romania just in time for Christmas.
The heifers were in fine form as they waited to be blessed by Fr. John Cullen before PJ Doyle gave them a lift to Roscrea where they met up with 52 other heifers who were also part of the project.
The Roscommon heifers were donated by Bóthar groups from across the county as well as individual farmers, local families and even local schools.
It was a successful drive for the Roscommon IFA and Bóthar as Roscommon Mart also donated a cheque for €2,000.
John Watson, project organiser, wished to thank all farmers, families and groups who had donated heifers and those who had reared them. He also expressed gratitude to all of those who had given their time and services as part of this year’s drive, including Fr. Cullen, Roscommon Mart, local vets, scanners and PJ Doyle.
All help and assistance was greatly appreciated.
