Funding totalling €307,000 for the Suck Valley Way and disabled angling access was announced this week by Fáilte Ireland. Fáilte Ireland West has announced details of grant-aid of €307,000 awarded to Roscommon County Council to boost tourism in the county. The grants were awarded as part of a wider package of funding support available to the public and private sector over the 2007-2013 period under the National Development Plan. The projects being funded under the current round of grant aid include: Suck Valley Way Looped Walk – grant aid of 75 percent of eligible expenditure, up to a maximum of €61,442, to extend the walking visitor’s experience and develop the infrastructure to put the walk in place. Disabled toilet facilities at disabled angling stands – grant aid of 75 percent of eligible expenditure, up to a maximum of €73,500, to develop facilities for the many disabled anglers that use the lake. Car parking and access improvements specifically for angling – grant aid of 75 percent of eligible expenditure, up to a maximum of €172,362, to provide small off road parking facilities at a number of strategic locations along key rivers in County Roscommon. Speaking following the announcement, Mr. Ray Rooney, Chairman of Fáilte Ireland West said: ‘The development and improvement of tourism related activities and attractions is a key priority for us here in Fáilte Ireland West. We need to continually invest in our tourism infrastructure to ensure that the standards and variety of what we have on offer is at the highest level. This has been a priority area for our Board here in the West.’
