Boil Water Notice in Roscommon/Galway!

Up to 1,000 premises affected on border

Irish Water announced yesterday afternoon (Wednesday) that a Boil Water Notice is now in place for almost 1,000 houses and businesses served by the Williamstown public water supply on the Roscommon Galway border.

The company confirmed the notice has been put in place as a precautionary measure to protect some 986 people served by this supply. The notice was issued as the treatment plant is currently operating outside its design conditions due to extremely heavy rainfall in the area on Tuesday.

As a result of this, the plant has come under increased pressure. This has resulted in turbidity in the water supply while the level of UV protection necessary for the treatment of drinking water is below required levels.

Independent TD Michael Fitzmaurice says he will be liaising closely with Irish Water today (Thursday). He said last night: “This Boil Water Notice was issued with immediate effect because of the heavy rain in recent days.

“I will be liaising with Irish Water on the situation as it develops.”
