The following statement was issued by Roscommon County Board in the wake of the resignation of John Maughan, Eamonn McManus Senior and Gerry Fitzmaurice: It is with regret that the management committee if Roscommon County Board accept the resignation of the senior football management team of John Maughan and his selectors Eamon Mc Manus and Gerry Fitzmaurice. Since his appointment in 2005 John Maughan has worked tremendously hard to restore the fortunes of Roscommon football. During his period as manager he has helped to restore pride in and respect for Roscommon football. He has left no stone unturned in his efforts to promote the good of Roscommon football and for this we are most grateful. He was ably assisted in all his work by his fellow selectors Eamon McManus and Gerry Fitzmaurice. They represent all that is good in the GAA in Roscommon and their contribution at senior level will be greatly missed. Roscommon GAA condemn the personal abuse that John Maughan, his selectors and their families have been subjected to in the recent past. The instigators of this abuse do not represent the genuine Roscommon supporter and are not welcome as Roscommon supporters at our games. We wish John Maughan and his management team well in the future and thank them once again for their work for Roscommon football. The management committee will now seek to put in place an interim management team for our senior footballers for the remainder National Football League and the forthcoming championship.
