SuperValu U-16 Division  One Championship Final Padraig Pearses ……… 1-9 Clan na nGael ………… 1-4 The under sixteen footballers of Padraig Pearses seized the Division One county championship in the sunshine at Dr. Hyde Park last Sunday afternoon when they defeated gallant Clann na nGael by five points. This match featured impressive football from the 33 players who partook, and indeed it was a credit to the tremendous work that is being done to develop Roscommon’s underage footballers. Padraic Corbett, Shane Blackweir,  Michael Kenirons, Enda Kelly, and Eamon Donohue all performed with tremendous maturity to steer Padraig Pearses to victory past a good Clann na nGael team. The SuperValu division one final was a very keenly contested affair, and Padraig Pearses owe their success to superiority at midfield and in their half back line. The Woodmount team also benefited from the great efficiency of their inside forward, with Blackweir and Corbett scoring 1-6 of their 1-9 total. Padraig Pearses dominated the opening phase of the game and scored four early points. The margin was reduced to two points midway through the first half before Corbett goaled for Pearses. John Harney and David Qualter tried to take the game to the leaders after half time and Cian Duffy’s Clann na nGael goal from a 40 metre free gave them heart 10 minutes into the second half. Pearses were stronger in the final quarter, however, and they won the match by five points in the end.
