Bike run raises €50,000 for hospice

A motorbike run from Strokestown to Westport organised by a group of people from Strokestown last July raised a total of €50,000, which was presented to Mayo/Roscommon Hospice recently. The €50,000 cheque was recently handed over to Cynthia Clampett, Roscommon/Mayo Hospice by Donal Power, chief organiser of the event, at a function held in Percy French Hotel. The organisers want to thank Leo and Chrissie Cox of the Percy French for their generosity and their help during the running of the event. Thanks were expressed to photographer Mary Regan, Kevin Campbell of the Kon Tiki and Hotel Westport, a major sponsor of the event. The committee is acutely aware of the participation of young people and the fabulous effort they put into collecting along the route and Donal Power said they are a credit to the group, and under with the watchful eye of Mel Kiernan, this group of youngsters are central to the success of the amount of money raised. ‘This motorcycle fundraising event is always looking for new people and new sponsors. It’s important for the public to know that every single cent collected goes to Roscommon/Mayo Hospice and the weekend expense on those bike riding and collecting comes out of their own pockets.’ At a recent function held in Percy French Hotel, Strokestown, Imelda Hanly, Chairperson of Strokestown Hospice Support Group expressed her deep appreciation to all involved and praised every single member of the group for their support. Donal Power also thanked Eugene Murphy for his support and assistance with the event from the start. The enthusiasm of this group will ensure that in 2008 there will be a massive effort to make the event a huge success once again.
