Big weekend for Padraig Pearses after historic Feile achievement

Padraig Pearses GAA Club is located just off the main Athlone to Ballinasloe road about 3 miles from Ballinasloe town and was formed in 1962, as a result of the amalgamation of the junior sides of Moore and Taughmacconnell. It also includes the rural (Roscommon) portion of the parish of Creagh on the outskirts of Ballinasloe.   Over the years the club has developed teams in all grades in Football, Hurling, Ladies Football and Camogie. The underage teams of the the club have enjoyed great success in Div. 1 football/hurling for decades past and have represented the county in Feile on several occasions, winning the Division 3 Feile in 2005 and narrowly losing Division 2 Feile final in 2007. Also the Div. 1 Hurling team were beaten finalists in the 1996 Feile, held in  Waterford.    Padraig Pearses in 2007 won minor league & Championship honours. This year our under 16’s won the county championship and Pearses have also enjoyed success on a national basis with members of the club winning an All-Ireland minor Title in 2006. This current team not only have qualified for Feile Peil na nOg in Cavan on July 4th, 5th and 6th this year, but will be representing Roscommon in Feile na nGael in Laois/Offaly on June 21st, 22nd and 23rd too. This is the first time in Padraig Pearses’ history that both codes have qualified for Feile in the same year and it is testatment to all the previous managers  and coaches that worked hard on juvenile football in years gone by that your dedication has not gone without fruition.    The club has developed 2 full-sized pitchs and lighted training facilities to cope with large demands from all grades and for the use of schools in the area. It also has a sanded walking track, Squash courts, Hurling wall, licensed clubhouse and are continuously upgrading all facilities. In 2006 the Connacht Council awarded the club the club grounds of the year award.   Padraig & Belinda Dooley (Hurling management team) and Larry Kelly & Joe Phelan (Football management team) would like to thank the club, its officials and especially its supporters for all the support, help, and fundraising that has taken place to allow our teams compete in this year’s Feile finals and we look forward to seeing you for both weekends.   The club is grateful to all our members and wishes to acknowledge the great voluntary effort to allow the club’s teams to develop to their full potential.
