Beef Plan protest during Creed visit

Over 100 members of the Beef Plan Movement staged a protest to coincide with the visit of Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Michael Creed to Aurivo in Ballaghadereen last Friday.

There were some angry exchanges as Minister Creed arrived at the Aurivo Dairy Ingredients plant where he opened a new dryer facility.

Beef Plan Movement members were believed to have been joined by Bord na Móna workers and members of the Irish Cattle and Sheep Farmers’ Association (ICSA).

Protestors asked Minister Creed whether he would recognise the Beef Plan Movement and how he planned on addressing the share of the price of beef. According to the Beef Plan Movement, Minister Creed refused to engage with protestors ahead of the opening of Aurivo’s new dryer facility.

A further farmers’ protest was staged at Kepak in Athleague on Monday and was supported by local public representatives including Independent TD Michael Fitzmaurice and Cllr. Tony Waldron.
