Ah, it’s great to see you in person again, my old friend!
Yes, it’s good to meet, but it’s not like it used to be…
What you mean is…we’re still not back in the pub!
Well, not just that…we can’t shake hands, or hug…
Ah, I was never that keen on that continental stuff…not with you anyway…
Me either, come to think of it. We’re a bit macho for that type of thing…
Macho or old-fashioned?
Probably both! By the way, we could have four friends with us now…six people can meet up. Well, we could if we had four friends between us…
Oh, we have! Soon enough, we’ll have a jar with them, in the bar!
Yeah, all we need is a bar counter that’s 12 metres long!
I’m not sure if we’ll be allowed to sit at the bar counter, I think it will be table service only! Probably no barstools!
Oh dear, more continental rubbish! Sure Irish pubs HAVE TO have barstools! And WE ARE the barstool boyos, after all!
Look my friend, it’s great to see you in person, and isn’t it great that the country is beginning to reopen…
Yeah, some light at the end of the tunnel…
What we need now is a new Government! It’s gone on too long!
Still, fair play to Leo…he’s played a blinder.
Wha’?
Well, he’s running the country, working day and night, and in an acting capacity!
Yeah…
He returned to work as a doctor.
Yeah…
He mixed with the ordinary people in the Phoenix Park…
Yeah…
Now he’s helping out the weather forecasters, presumably because they’re essential workers, fair play to him, lovely gesture…
What are you talking about?
I heard him on the radio the other day! Leo. He said…“A new day will come, and when the sun shines, it’ll shine out the clearer”.
He was quoting from Lord of the Rings! He wasn’t doing a weather forecast!
Why was he quoting from Lord of the Rings? I thought Lord of the Rings was a fantasy world…is Leo trying to tell us something?
That’s nothing, last time he addressed the nation, he quoted from The Terminator!
(There’s a brief lull in the conversation)
It was so strange, having nobody call to the house…
Nobody calling? You’re joking! One minute it was a food delivery, the next it was something one of the kids had bought online…there were so many delivery men calling, I nearly had to employ a traffic attendant!
Yeah, we’ve seen some changes. And now, we’re entering the new normal…however it will be.
We’ll adapt. Hopefully we’ll have the best of all: a bit of the new normal, and a good bit of the old normal!
At least the GAA launched their road map…did you read it?
No! It’s too long. I just skipped on to the end! Hopefully we’ll see the Rossies back in action in October!
With the help of God…and Croke Park! Anyways, I’d better move on, I’ve ordered a takeaway! Great to see you! And remember, a new day will come!
Yeah…and I’LL BE BACK!
Just one question, based on our chat…
Okay…what’s it on? Government formation? The return of GAA? The new normal?
Eh…do you really think there’ll be no barstools?
