Barstool Boyos – 11th of February

‘I guess this pandemic has changed us all…a little. Time will tell…’

We did it! After TWO YEARS!

Yep, emotional…

We sat together at the counter! In our local! On a Friday night, until 11 o’clock!

Yep…

Of course we understand that diving back in may not be for everyone…

Yeah, maybe not even for us. Maybe we’ll meet earlier in the evening in the local? Still, it was nice…just to experience it again.

(Editor: Some humour, please!)

AND we missed the Eurosong caper on the Late Late!

(They pause to acknowledge that they both saw the repeat of the Late Late Show and felt the ‘Eurosong caper’ wasn’t so bad)

Maybe not even for us?

Huh?

You said…being in the pub, at the counter, at night, may not even be for us…

Oh I dunno, I guess this pandemic has changed us all…a little. Time will tell…

The banana bread factor, is it? We were confronted with so much that was different. Is that it?

Well, a LOT has changed. Do we even know who we are any more?

Bit deep? I mean, it’s only banana bread!

Mmnn…

Well, Zoom calls too, I suppose. And the phenomenon of those vans delivering packages to our houses. And the mask-wearing…

This is what I’m getting at. We’ve changed…at least a little. The banana bread was grand, that and other new hobbies, the new appreciation of nature, the extra time at home, particularly during the first lockdown, but the other stuff, it’s strange…

Huh?

The Zoom calls were fine, good even. The online shopping was already a thing. The masks…I dunno…put them with the enforced social distancing, the isolation, the not meeting people…I feel it’s changed us…inevitably.

(Editor: Not sure I can take this philosophical, soppy stuff. I’m going on YouTube for some comedy…)

(They pause to wistfully stare into the shadows of their past)

We just need to ease ourselves back…

You realise I’m not just talking about us and the local…

YES! I’m not THAT vain!

I’m talking about wider society. The elderly, our peers, our teenage children…about social interaction generally.

I know…it will take time.

We missed out on so much…it just hit me in the pub the other night. It all felt quite strange.

But people were nice?

Oh yes, but I guess it will take time to get back to how we once were.

(Editor: I’m going for a pint, this is too much).

(They pause to try and lighten the mood, while appreciating that it’s good to show vulnerability)

My friend, we’ll learn from the pandemic, we’ll take the journey into the new normal or the old normal or whatever it is, with care and empathy…

Good plan. I guess I just got a touch maudlin or fearful or nervous…

Perfectly understandable. It’s been a rough ride, but hope is back…and the Rossies won!

Thanks, pal. Maybe a Friday EVENING pint this week? I’m still not sure about the night…

Well, the Late Late Valentine’s Special is on…

Oh dear! See you in the pub at 9.30!

(Editor rolls eyes)
