Bargain for lamb

It’s time to drive a good bargain for your lamb. This week ICSA Sheep Chairman Mervyn Sunderland has words of caution to farmers looking to sell new and old season lamb. ‘Supplies continue to be tight, so farmers are in a position to shop around for good prices. Prices are up between 10c and 15c on last week’s prices, and good quality old season lambs can fetch between €4.40 and €4.50 / kg including bonus, with prospects looking good for more next week.’ ‘Farmers have to be careful that they don’t give away meat for free,’ continued Mr Sunderland. ‘On no account should they accept a cut off below 21kg for R3s or 22kg for U3s for new season lamb, which is a healthy €5.70 and up to €6 with bonuses.’
