Bank of Ireland to sponsor ploughing championships

Bank of Ireland in Roscommon has been revealed as the main sponsors of this year’s County Roscommon Ploughing Championships which takes place in Rahara on Sunday, April 1st. The event takes place on the farm of Sean Connaughton, located on the main Athleague to Curraghboy road, half way between the two villages. It’s just three miles from Curley’s farm which hosted the ploughing championships a number of years ago. Located on one of the highest sites in the county, dry land should be the order of the day come April and good ploughing conditions are anticipated.  The organising committee of this year’s ploughing event were delighted to have Bank of Ireland as the main sponsor of this year’s event. Visitors to this year’s ploughing will include Pat Kent from Wexford, whose father ploughed in the national event held in Boyle 50 years ago. Other highlights at this year’s event include a dog show, sheep dog trials with Con McGarry, the model farm and the annual hunt chase.
