Pupils from St. Bride’s NS in Ballintubber and Scoil na Maighdine Muire, in Carrick-on-Shannon recently took part in a film screening at Backstage Theatre in Longford. The schools were taking part in the second annual Film in Primary Schools Regional event. The FIS project involves 100 primary schools nationally, with 20 regional screenings. Both schools had a five minute video which they made, screened. The project, known as FIS, encourages teaching and learning of the primary curriculum through the medium of film. The children write the script, play the characters, perform the camera and sound functions as well as edit the captured film using image editing software and hardware supplied. All the work is carried out under the direction and supervision of two teachers from each of the schools involved.
