Timepieces store at Main Street, Roscommon is among the finalists in the Best Small Store Western Region category in the FBD Crest Retail Excellence Awards 2007. The overall winners will be presented with their awards by Tom Kitt, TD Minister of State at the Department of an Taoiseach at the Annual FBD CREST Awards Ceremony on Saturday next, 17th November in Dromoland Castle, Co. Clare, which will be hosted by Miriam O’Callaghan. In 1992, Mary Brennan along with daughter Lorna, spotted a gap in the market, there was no costume jewellery store in Roscommon. Time Pieces, Main Street, Roscommon renowned for its nooks and crannies and heaps of character, has traded successfully ever since, and three years ago the Brennan family decided to build on this success by expanding. The Brennans set up shop at a time when Ireland wasn’t exactly booming, yet the store managed to survive and has thrived throughout the Celtic Tiger years. Brennan says it continues to compete against some of the high street stores in the town. "We’re competing with everyone. The thing is to try and have it that bit different," she says, adding that all age groups love the store, from very young to very old. A true gem in Roscommon, Time Pieces sells a variety of items. The family source a lot of Irish goods, but also go to England to buy some pieces. In the pottery section, the store offers designer names like Nicholas Mosse, Stephen Pearce and Paul Maloney. The wide range of jewellery includes items from designers such as Absolut, Shira, Pat Whyte and Moonbeam.
